Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Battery > Menu
- Enable Battery saver
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen using two fingers
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease luminosity
- Launch Settings and scroll to Device
- Tap Display
- Optionally, enable or disable Adaptive brightness
- For timeout options tap Sleep
- Select a lower screen timeout value such as 15 seconds
Turn Unused Connectivity Features OFF:
NOTE: You can disable the phones connectivity features such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and Hotspot - when not actively in use in order to prevent unnecessary network scans and improve battery life in the long run.
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen
- Tap the Location, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi quick toggles to turn these features off
- Tap Mode and enable Battery saving
- To turn hotspot off, return to Settings and tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Lastly tap Tethering & portable hotspot and disable the feature
Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:
NOTE: In case your device runs low on battery and you dont have access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Open Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Access Mobile networks
- Tap Preferred network type
- Enable 2G
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: You can change your accounts sync settings to reduce sync and improve battery life in the long run.
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Personal and tap Accounts
- Select an account type and an account
- Change the accounts sync settings to reduce sync
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Some third party apps perform regular background processes that can potentially affect the phones battery life even when the apps are not actively in use. Thus you can remove or disable unused third party apps to improve battery life in the long run.
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Apps and select All apps from the drop-down menu
- Tap Force Stop / Disable to disable the application
- To remove the app, tap Uninstall
Keep the OS Updated:
NOTE: OS updates can include battery life improvements and as such its recommended to keep the OS updated at all times. To check if new updates are available:
- Open Settings
- Scroll to and tap About phone
- Tap System updates
- Check if a new update is available for download
- If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply any available updates (NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot)
