Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: You can disable the phones connectivity features when not in use including Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Hotspot, and GPS to avoid unnecessary network scans and improve battery life in the long run.
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen
- Tap the Wi-Fi, Location and Bluetooth quick toggles to disable the features
- Open Settings
- Go to Location for GPS options and tap Mode > Battery saving
- To disable hotspot, return to Settings and tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Tethering & portable hotspot and set the feature OFF
Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:
NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Open Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Mobile networks
- Go to Preferred network type
- Select 2G
Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Access Battery
- Tap Menu
- Enable Battery saver
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Swipe the status bar down on the home screen
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease luminosity
- For more options, open Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Display
- Optionally, enable or disable Adaptive brightness
- Tap Sleep for timeout duration and select a lower value like 15 seconds
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Some third-party apps perform regular background processes that can potentially affect battery life even when the apps are not actively in use. Thus, by disabling or removing unused third-party apps you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Apps
- Select All apps from the drop-down menu
- Select the desired application
- To disable the app, tap Force stop / Disable
- To remove the app, tap Unisntall to confirm
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: You can change your accounts settings to reduce sync and improve battery life in the long run.
- Launch Settings
- Tap Accounts under Personal
- Select an account type and the desired account
- Change the available settings to reduce sync
Keep the OS Updated:
NOTE: OS updates can include improvements to battery life and thus its recommended to keep the OS updated at all times. To check for updates:
- Launch Settings
- Go to About phone and tap System updates
- Check if a new update is available for download
- If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply the update (NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot)
