Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Battery
- Press Menu
- Enable Battery saver
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen
- In the Notification area drag the brightness slider towards the left
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Display
- Optionally, enable or disable Adaptive brightness
- Tap Sleep for timeout options and select 15 seconds
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: You can disable the phones connectivity features when not in use, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Hotspot, and GPS, to improve battery life in the long run.
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen
- Tap the Location, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi quick toggles to disable the features
- Go back to Settings
- Go to Location for GPS options
- Tap Mode and enable Battery saving
- To disable hotspot, return to Settings and tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Tethering & portable hotspot
- Turn the feature OFF
Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:
NOTE: If your device runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Open Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Mobile networks
- Go to Preferred network type
- Enable 2G
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: You can change your accounts sync settings to reduce the amount of data synced and improve battery life in the long run.
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Personal and tap Accounts
- Select an account type and the desired account
- Change the desired settings to reduce sync
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Some third-party apps perform regular background processes that can potentially affect the devices battery life even when not in use. By disabling or removing unused third party apps from the phone you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Apps
- Go to All apps
- Select the desired application
- Tap Disable or Force stop
- To remove the app from the phone, tap Uninstall
Keep the OS Updated:
NOTE: OS updates can include improvements to battery life and thus its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for updates:
- Open Settings
- Scroll to and tap About phone
- Tap System updates
- Check if a new update is available
- If applicable, follow the on-screen steps to download and install the update (NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot)
