Disable Unused Connectivity Features:

NOTE: By disabling the phone’s connectivity features when not actively in use – including Wi-Fi, Hotspot, GPS, and Bluetooth – you can avoid unnecessary network scans and improve battery life in the long run.

  1. On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down
  2. Tap the “Location”, “Bluetooth” and “Wi-Fi” quick toggles to turn the features OFF
  3. Open “Settings” for more options
  4. Access “Location” for GPS options
  5. Tap “Mode” and enable “Battery saving”
  6. For more options return to “Settings”
  7. Then tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  8. Disable “Tethering & portable hotspot”

Enable Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Battery”
  3. Tap “Menu”
  4. Enable “Battery saver”

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen
  2. Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease screen luminosity
  3. For additional options, open “Settings”
  4. Scroll to and tap “Display”
  5. Optionally, enable or disable “Adaptive brightness”
  6. For timeout options tap “Sleep” and select a lower value like “15 seconds”

Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:

NOTE: In case your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve the battery until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  3. Access “Mobile networks”
  4. Go to “Preferred network type” and enable “2G”

Minimize Third-Party App Usage:

NOTE: Some third-party apps perform regular background processes that can potentially affect the device’s battery life even when not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third-party apps you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device”
  3. Access “Apps” and make sure “All apps” is selected in the drop-down menu at the top
  4. Select the desired application
  5. To disable the app, tap “Force Stop” / “Disable”
  6. To remove the app from the device, tap “Uninstall”

Change Sync Settings:

NOTE: You can improve battery life in the long run by changing your accounts’ settings to reduce sync.

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Tap “Accounts” under “Personal”
  3. Select an account type and the desired account
  4. Change the desired settings to reduce sync

Keep the OS Updated:

NOTE: Software updates can include battery life improvements and as such it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for updates:

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Access “About phone” > “System updates”
  3. Verify if a new update is available
  4. If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and install the update (NOTE: the process will require at least one reboot)
