Enable Battery Saving:
- Open Settings
- Go to Device
- Tap Battery
- Tap Menu and enable Battery saver
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Launch Settings and go to Display
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease screen luminosity
- Optionally you can also enable or disable Adaptive brightness
- For timeout settings, tap Sleep
- Select a lower value such as 15 seconds
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: You can disable the phones connectivity features when unused, such as Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth, and GPS, to avoid unnecessary network scans and potentially improve battery life in the long run.
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down
- In the quick toggle area, tap the Wi-Fi, Location (GPS) and Bluetooth quick toggles to disable the features
- Launch Settings and go to Location
- Tap Mode and enable Battery saving
- Return to Settings and tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Turn Tethering & portable hotspot OFF
Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:
NOTE: In case your phone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve energy until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Launch Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Go to Mobile networks
- Access Preferred network type
- Select 2G
Minimize Third-Party App Usage:
NOTE: Some third-party apps perform regular background processes that can potentially affect the devices battery life even when they are not actively in use. As such you can disable or remove unused third-party apps form the phone to improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Go to Apps
- Ensure All apps is selected
- Select the app you want to disable or remove
- To disable it, tap Force Stop / Disable
- To remove the app, tap Uninstall
Minimize Sync:
NOTE: You can change your accounts settings to reduce sync and potentially improve battery life in the long run.
- Launch Settings
- Go to Accounts
- Tap an account type and select an account
- Change the available settings to reduce sync as desired
Keep the OS Updated:
NOTE: Software updates include improvements to battery life and so its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check if new updates are available:
- Go to Settings
- Access About phone > System updates
- Verify if a new update is available for download
- If so, follow the on-screen steps to download and apply the update (the process will require at least one reboot)
