Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Open Settings
- Go to Device
- Tap Battery
- Tap Menu and enable Battery saver
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left in the quick toggle area to decrease brightness
- Open Settings and go to Display
- Enable or disable Adaptive brightness
- For timeout options, tap Sleep and select a lower timeout value
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: By disabling the phones connectivity features when not actively in use, including Wi-Fi, Hotspot, GPS, and Bluetooth, you can avoid unnecessary network scans and improve battery life in the long run.
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen
- From the quick toggle area, tap the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Location quick toggles to disable the features
- Open Settings
- Go to Location for GPS options
- Tap Mode and enable Battery saving
- Return to Settings and tap more under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Tethering & portable hotspot and disable the feature
Temporarily Switch to 2G Networks:
NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Launch Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Mobile networks
- Tap Preferred network type
- Enable 2G
Reduce Sync:
NOTE: You can change your accounts settings to reduce sync and improve battery life in the long run.
- Go to Settings
- Access Accounts under Personal
- Select an account type and the desired account
- Change the available settings to reduce sync
Minimize Third-Party App Usage:
NOTE: Certain third-party apps perform regular background processes that can potentially affect the devices battery life even when not actively in use. By removing or disabling unused third-party apps from the phone, you may improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Go to Apps and switch to All apps if necessary
- Select the desired app
- To disable the app, tap Force Stop / Disable
- To remove the app, tap Uninstall
Keep the OS Up To Date:
NOTE: OS updates include improvements to battery life and thus its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for updates:
- Go to Settings
- Access About phone > System updates
- Check if new updates are available
- If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply the update (NOTE: the update will require you to reboot the device at least once)
