Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease luminosity
- Open Settings
- Go to Device and tap Display
- Optionally, turn Adaptive brightness ON or OFF
- For timeout options, access Sleep and select a lower value like 15 seconds
Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Launch Settings
- Go to Battery
- Tap Menu
- Enable Battery saver
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: You can turn the phones connectivity features Off when not actively in use- including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and Hotspot- in order to avoid unnecessary network scans and potentially improve battery life.
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down
- Tap the Wi-Fi Location (GPS) and Bluetooth quick toggles to turn the features off
- Next open Settings and go to Location for more GPS options
- Then tap mode and enable Battery saver
- Return to Settings and tap more under Wireless & Networks for Hotspot options
- Tap Tethering & Portable hotspot and disable the feature
Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:
NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve energy until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Launch Settings
- Tap more under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Mobile networks
- Go to Preferred network type
- Enable 2G
Minimize Third-Party App Usage:
NOTE: Some third-party apps perform regular background processes which can potentially affect the devices battery life even when they are not actively in use. Thus you can potentially improve battery life by removing or disabling unused third-party apps form the phone.
- Open Settings
- Go to Apps and switch to All apps if necessary
- Select the desired app
- To disable the app, tap Disable / Force Stop
- To remove the app, tap Uninstall
Change Account Settings to Reduce Sync:
NOTE: You can change your accounts settings to reduce sync and potentially improve battery life in the long run.
- Go to Settings
- Access Personal
- Tap Accounts
- Select an account type
- Select an account and change the available settings to reduce sync
Keep the OS Updated:
NOTE: OS updates can include improvements to battery life and thus its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for updates:
- Open Settings
- Scroll to and tap About phone
- Tap System updates and check if a new update is available for download
- If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply the update. Keep in mind that the update process will require at least one reboot
