check out uscc / us cellular they have coverage their and in my area in eastern north carolina it is great very good.

You've probably gotten a new provider by now, but I thought I'd share my thoughts and experiences with the big four:

Cingular: great east coast coverage but awful customer care
Verizon: great east coast coverage but terrible phones
Sprint: great allover coverage but expensive
T-Mobile: very cheap and good phones with international service but not good in rural areas (although they are heavily working on their coverage)
