There is nothing more frustrating than going through "he said, she said" when there is a problem.

When I have a question for my provider that is of financial consequence, such as plan details, overage per minute fee and other fees, I like to have a written record of what I'm told, so there will be no dispute later on.

Providers refuse to provide written statement if you ask them to email over what they just told you and I have been told to "please call *611 to discuss your questions in details" on more than one occasions. I much prefer e-mail as it leaves written records of what I was told and there'd be no dispute over what they said or didn't say.

Do providers intentionally guide you to oral channel of communication to prevent customers from having written records of what they were told, so they can play the "you misunderstood what we told you" or "what he said/she said was incorrect" game, then hold you accountable in a way that is in favor of the house on the ground of "your word against ours" ?

Well, there is not an easy answer.

All companies will/should make you sign something when you start service that itemizes everything you are getting and for how long.

However once you are a customer this getting overlooked quite often. Especially when you are agreeing or are thought to be agreeing (by customer service) to something over the phone.

However, any carrier has online billing. If you go to their site you can view and some allow you to make changes to your account.

Don't know who you have but if you look here - Get Started <- That's just the name of the page, the forum automatically truncates links.

There is a list at the bottom of the page with links to online billing for each of the biggest companies. Good Luck, and if you need any help feel free to ask or send a PM.

They don't provide written details so the next time you remind them of what they told, you can just deny it
