I've been asked to assist an older, tech-challenged friend with choosing a new phone and prepaid carrier in Vermont, USA. I don't believe she needs a smartphone, and she's a moderate to heavy text and voice user. She hasn't had data/web previously, so I don't know what her usage might look like there.

My initial thought was Straight Talk, from a price perspective. Anyone have any others that I ought to evaluate? Thoughts on currently-available phones are also welcome. I've been using an iPhone for several years, so I really don't know what's out there anymore.

I would check out the major carriers pre-paid services as well. A lot of the pre-paid carriers all use the same towers with the exception of a few.

You can check stores like Walmart or Target. They have several options on prepaid phones. I bought my mother one, although I forgot the name of the brand.

Or you could just put the site address or the name of the service right here in this thread. Otherwise, the more suspicious types on the board (like me) might think you're Up To Something. One post, poor language skills, and secretive? It doesn't look good...

Yeah don't even pay attention to crap like that. There's a lot of people reselling prepaid plans these days.
