3G towers are being installed right now (UMTS). By as early as January US residnets in major metro areas (NYC, LA, Detroit, etc.) should have it available. Sprint has many of its networks up to 2.5G status (not quite 3G but better than Digital 2G)

Yea, as far as sprint is concerned, they should have a phone or two around end of the year or within in the first few months. You can check out phonescoop.com to get the latest on new phones on the horizon. Also, theNokia 3650 for AT&T is a video phone, friend had a sean paul video playing on it.

Seems cool, but will you really need it? I mean, sure it's compact, but expensive and low quality?

Is a video phone really necessary. It just seems like to much. But I'm sure they probably said that about color screens and picture phones, so what do I know.
