I've been using a Palm Treo 700p on Verizon Wireless for several years. I sync it to Microsoft Outlook 2003 on my PC running XP via USB every day. Works perfectly.
Problem: I'm moving to a new Win 7 x64 PC with Office 2010 x64. Sync is not supported by Palm. Thus, new phone needed.
All I want is a phone I can sync with Outlook 2010 x64 on Win 7 x64. Verizon says any phone I buy is considered a smartphone and thus requires the $30 per month data plan. I don't pay for a data plan with my Treo. But I don't surf and I don't do e-mail on my phone. I send fewer than 10 texts a month. And I want a phone that actually works well as -- a phone.
Suggestions appreciated.

Re: Need phone to sync with Outlook; don't need data plan
You can go to this website and enter the carrier and features you want on a phone:Phone Finder - search database of cell phone specs & features (Phone Scoop) You can expand the options. Be sure to check PC Sync. When you find the phone with the features you want, check the Verizon Wireless website to see if a data plan is required.

I am in exactly the same boat! My Palm will not sync to outlook 2010, and I do not want/need a data plan. What did you end up doing?

Re: Need phone to sync with Outlook; don't need data plan
I'm in the same boat. I couldn't find a phone to meet the same needs you have, so I bought myself an iPodTouch 4, which syncs Outlook 2010 calendars, notes, contacts, etc. and then I got a rather simple phone (an LG Ozone) which I was told would sync with Outlook 2010 (without a data package), but it turned out it didn't; so I just use it as a phone. I really would prefer to have everything on one device, but so far I haven't found anything that would accommodate our needs. I have no need or desire to spend an extra $30.00/month on a data plan, but I don't think the cell phone companies care. I'm suprised that Microsoft hasn't come out with some sort of fix for this problem. (At least I'm not aware of any.)

Re: Need phone to sync with Outlook; don't need data plan
I'm in the same boat withthe rest of you. I just got W7 64 bit with Outlook 2010 and can't get my phone to synch. I found out quickly that USB wouldn't work, but I had hoped I could get it to work with Bluetooth.
Like the rest of you, I don't want a new phone and a dataplan...I just want to synch my calendar.
I like the Ipod idea...I've wanted one of those for a while. Then, I might go with something as simple as a cheap tracfone.
If anyone has a solution, I'd appreciate hearing it.
Thanks!

Check out the BitPim site (it is free and open source)
Welcome to BitPim
They support a lot of phones,
the carriers Verizon etc, tell you it will void the warrenty because THEY didn't develop it but it still works like a charm, contacts, addresses, calendar, notes.
