VPN Connectivity
NOTE: Before you can connect to an organization's local network you could be required to:
- Download and install a necessary VPN application
- Install security certificates
- Provide your login credentials
Adding a New VPN Network:
- From the home screen, swipe the "Status" bar down using two fingers
- Tap the "Settings" button located in the upper-right corner
- Tap "More" under "Wireless & networks"
- Tap "VPN" and press the "Menu" icon
- Select "Add VPN profile"
- Enter the necessary VPN settings and tap "Save"
Connecting to a VPN:
- Swipe the "Status" bar down with two fingers
- Tap "Settings"
- Tap "More" under "Wireless & networks"
- Tap "VPN" and select the desired VPN
- Provide the log in credentials and tap "Connect"
Disconnecting from a VPN:
- Swipe down the "notification" bar
- From the notification area, tap the "VPN" notification
- Tap "Disconnect"
Using the HTC Desire 816 as a Wireless Router:
NOTE: In order to be able and share your data connection with other devices via Wi-Fi Hotspot, you may need to have an approved data plan
WARNING: using your smartphone as a wireless router can result in extra costs on your bill, depending on your carrier agreement.
- Swipe the "Status" bar down using two fingers
- Tap "Settings"
- Under "Wireless & networks" tap "More"
- Tap "Mobile network sharing" > "Portable Wi-Fi hotspot settings"
- Enter a name for the router if you desire
- Choose the security type and enter a password for Wi-Fi hotspot. NOTE: while you can select "None" in the type of security, it's recommended that you use a security type
- Select the "Portable Wi-Fi hotspot" option to enable the feature
Using USB Tethering to Share Your Phone's Data Connection:
NOTE: You can share your phone's data connection with your computer via USB tethering. Keep in mind that you may need a USB Tethering plan in order to use this feature.
WARNING: using USB tethering may result in extra costs on your monthly bill, depending on what type of agreement you have with the mobile operator.
- From the home screen, drag the "Status" bar down using two fingers
- Enable "Mobile data" if necessary
- Tap "Settings"
- Tap "More" under "Wireless & networks"
- Tap "Mobile network sharing" > "USB network settings" > "USB tethering"
- Establish a connection between your smartphone and computer using the USB cable
NOTE: make sure you have downloaded the latest USB drivers in order for tethering to work properly
