HTC Backup can be utilized to create daily backups in the cloud. Once the smartphone has been factory reset, the backup can be easily restored. The files can also be restored on a brand new smartphone.

NOTE: HTC Backup makes use of Google Drive cloud for storing accounts, apps, settings, data etc.

Backing Up the HTC Desire 210 to Google Drive:

  1. While on the home screen, swipe the "Status" bar down using two fingers
  2. Tap "Settings" > "Backup & reset"
  3. Tap "Backup account" > "HTC Account"
  4. Log in with your HTC Account. Facebook and Google accounts can also be used
  5. From the "Cloud storage" screen, select "Google Drive" and tap "OK"
  6. Sign in with your Google account in order to gain access to Google Drive
  7. If / when prompted, tap "OK" to allow HTC Backup access to Google Drive
  8. To automatically backup your data, tap the switch next to "Automatic backup" and set it to "ON"
  9. To manually backup the data, tap "Back up now"

NOTE: you can perform daily backups of your smartphone automatically, via Wi-Fi, by going to the phone's "Settings" menu and selecting "Back up phone daily over Wi-Fi"

Restoring Data from Google Drive after a Reset:

  1. After turning the Desire 210 on for the first time (ever or after a fresh factory reset), select to restore data and tap "Restore from HTC backup"
  2. Log in with the account containing the backup
  3. Select the desired backup file from the backup history menu, and tap "Next"
  4. If necessary, sign in with your Google account in order to gain access to Google Drive
  5. Allow HTC Backup to connect with Google Drive
  6. After the restoration process is done, tap "Next"

Creating Local Backups and Restoring Data

Backing Up Contacts:

  1. Tap the "Phone" icon while on the home screen
  2. Go to the "People" tab
  3. Tap "Menu" > "Manage contacts"
  4. Tap "Import / Export contacts" > "Export to SD card" or "Export to phone storage"
  5. Select an account type
  6. To protect the backup file with a password, tap "Yes" and type in your password
  7. Tap "OK" and the backup will be created

Restoring Contacts:

  1. Launch the "People" app and go to the "People" tab
  2. Press "Menu" and tap "Manage contacts"
  3. Tap "Import / Export contacts"
  4. Choose to "Import from phone storage" or "Import from SD card", depending on where the backup file is located
  5. In case you have more than one account select one
  6. If more than one backup file is detected, select the desired file and tap "OK"
  7. Enter the backup file's password if necessary, and tap "OK"

Backing Up Text Messages:

  1. Open the "messages" application
  2. Tap "Menu" and select "Backup / Restore SMS"
  3. Tap "Back up" > "Back up SMS"
  4. Optionally, set a password for the backup file
  5. Enter a name for the file and tap "OK"

Backing Up Text Messages using your Email:

  1. Launch the "Messages" app
  2. Tap "Menu" > "Back up / Restore SMS"
  3. Tap "Back up" > "Back up SMS via mail"
  4. Tap "Do not password protect this backup", or alternatively, enter a password
  5. Type in your own email address in the "To" field, and send the email to yourself

NOTE: to restore SMS from your email, open the email containing the attached file, download it and import its contents via the "Messages" app

Restoring Text Messages:

  1. From the "messages" app, tap "Menu"
  2. Tap "Back up / Restore SMS" > "Restore"
  3. Select the method of restoration and tap "Next"
  4. Choose the desired backup file
  5. Type in the file's password if necessary. Otherwise, tap "This backup file is not password protected"
  6. Tap "OK"

Backing Up and Restoring Tasks:

  1. Launch the "Tasks" application
  2. Access the task list you wish to create a backup of
  3. Tap "Menu" > "import / Export"
  4. Tap "Export to SD card"
  5. To import / restore your tasks, tap "Import form SD card"

Backing Up the Dictionary:

You can back up the personal dictionary stored on your phone, as follows:

  1. Swipe the "Notification" bar down with two fingers
  2. Tap "Language & keyboard" > "HTC Sense Input"
  3. Tap "Personal dictionary"
  4. Press "Menu" > "Back up to storage"
  5. Tap "Back up to email" and press "OK"

Restoring the Personal Dictionary:

  1. Open the phone's "Settings" menu
  2. Tap "Language & Keyboard"
  3. Tap "HTC Sense Input" > "Personal Dictionary"
  4. Tap "Menu" > "Restore from storage"
  5. Tap "OK"
