How-to: HTC Desire 516: Add and Manage Contacts and Caller Groups

Managing Contacts

Adding a New Contact:

1. Tap "Apps" while viewing the home screen
2. Go to the "People" application
3. Access the "People" tab and tap "+"
4. Type in the contact's name in the appropriate field
5. Select the desired phone number type and enter the contact's phone number
6. Enter any additional details if you wish, and tap "Save" when ready

Editing an Existing Contact:

1. Open the "People" app and go to the tab with the same name
2. Press and hold the desired contact
3. Tap "Edit contact" and do the desired modifications
4. Tap "Save"

Importing Contacts from an Exchange ActiveSync Account:

1. Open the "People" app
2. Tap the "People" tab
3. Enter the contact's name or email address in the search bar
4. Tap "Search contacts in your Company Directory"
5. Select the contact that you wish to import and tap "+"

Importing / Exporting Contacts from the SD Card:

1. While on the home screen, tap "Apps"
2. Launch the "Contacts" app
3. Press "Menu" and tap "Manage contacts"
4. Tap "Import / Export contacts"
5. Choose to "Export to SD card" or "Import from SD card"
6. Select the contacts that you wish to copy or press "Menu" > "Select all"
7. Lastly, tap "Save"

Importing / Exporting Contacts from the SIM Card:

1. Launch the "Contacts" application
2. Press "Menu" and tap "Manage contacts"
3. Tap "Import / Export contacts"
4. Choose to "Export to SIM card" or "Import from SIM card"
5. Select the desired contacts individually, or press "Menu" > "Select all"
6. Tap "Save"

Copying Contacts between Accounts:

1. Open the "People" app and go to the "People" tab
2. Press "Menu" > "Manage contacts"
3. Tap "Copy contacts" and select an online account or contact type

Deleting Contacts:

1. Launch the apps drawer
2. Open the "Contacts" app
3. Press "Menu" and tap "Delete contacts"
4. Mark the desired contacts and tap "Delete"

Managing Caller Groups

Creating a New Caller Group:

1. Tap the "People" app from the home screen
2. Access the "Groups" tab and press "+"
3. Enter the desired name for the group
4. Tap "Menu" and select "Add contacts to group"
5. Choose the contacts that you wish to add
6. Tap "Save"

Adding Contacts to an Existing Group:

1. From the home screen, tap the "Phone" icon
2. Access the "Groups" tab
3. Tap a group and touch the "Add" button
4. Mark the contacts that you want to add and tap "Save"

Merging and Sending Contact Information

Sending Contact Information:

1. Open the apps drawer and launch the "People" app
2. Tap the "People" tab and follow one of the sets of steps below:
   
   • To send your contact information: tap and hold "My profile" > tap "Send my profile"
   • To send a contact's information: tap and hold the contact and tap "Send contact as vCard"
3. Choose a method of sharing and select the type of information you wish to share
4. Tap "Send"

Sending Multiple Contact Cards:

1. Launch the "People" app and access the "People" tab
2. Press "Menu" > "Send contacts"
3. Mark the contacts you wish to share
4. Tap "Send" and select the desired method of sharing

Accepting Contact Link Suggestions:

1. Launch the "People" app
2. Access the "People" tab
3. Tap the "Link" suggestion notification if available
4. From the list of suggested contacts, tap the contacts you wish to merge

Manually Merging Contact Information:

1. From the "People" app, go to the "People" tab
2. Select the contact that you want to link and press "Menu"
3. Tap "Link" and then tap the "Link" icon under "Suggested links". Otherwise, you can choose a link option from under "Add contact"

Breaking a Link Between Contacts:

1. From the "People" app, go to the "People" tab
2. Tap a contact and press "Menu"
3. Tap "Link" and touch the "link" icon next to the contact you wish to break the link to
