Using iTunes:

With the help of iTunes you can sync the contacts stored on your iPhone to a Google account. Once that step is done, the contacts can be re-synced with your HTC Desire 820. This method requires a computer with Internet access and iTunes installed (the installer can be downloaded from Apple's official website)

  1. Launch iTunes on your computer
  2. Connect your iPhone to the computer using the proprietary USB cable
  3. Once the iPhone appears in iTunes, click it to view its summary page
  4. Go to the "Info" tab and place a check mark next to "Sync Contacts With"
  5. Select "Google Contacts" from the drop-down menu
  6. Sign in with your Google account in iTunes. Alternatively, if an account was added before you can click "Configure" and select an account from the list
  7. Click "Apply" to start the syncing process
  8. After the process is complete, register the same account on the Desire 820. (NOTE: to add an account go to "Settings" > "Accounts")
  9. Set the account so that it can sync contacts with your Android device

Using iCloud:

Assuming that you have used the iCloud backup service before finding this guide, then your iPhone contacts should already be backed up on your iCloud account. By accessing your account using your computer's Internet browser, you can export these contacts for Android use.

  1. Launch the Internet browser on your computer
  2. Go to https://www.icloud.com/ and sign in with your account
  3. Click "Contacts" and select the contacts you want to transfer
  4. Click the "Settings" button depicting a cog wheel and select "Export vCard"
  5. Wait for your computer to finish downloading the vCard file
  6. Import the downloaded file to "Google Contacts". Alternatively, you can connect the Desire 820 to your computer via USB, and copy the file to the phone's storage. Then, open the "People" app, press "Menu" > "Import / Export" and follow the self-explanatory steps to import the vCard file

Using the "My Contacts Backup" App:

The iCloud and iTunes methods require access to a computer, but you can still transfer your contacts without it. Using third party applications such as "My Contacts Backup", you can transfer your contacts from your iPhone in the form of a VCF file, via email. To do so:

  1. Go to the App Store and install "My Contacts Backup" on the iPhone
  2. Open the application and tap "Backup". This will create a VCF file containing your iPhone contacts
  3. After the file is created, tap "Email" and compose a new email containing the VCF file as an attachment
  4. Send the email to your own Gmail address
  5. Switch to the HTC Desire 820 and open the email
  6. Download the VCF file on your phone and then import its contents to your phonebook by opening the "People" app and using the "Import / Export" function

Using "Send Anywhere":

Send Anywhere is another third party app that can be used to transfer contacts from one phone to another via a P2P connection. This method doesn't require access to a computer.

  1. Visit the Google Play Store and install "Send Anywhere" on your Desire 820
  2. Go to the App Store and install the application on your iPhone
  3. Open the app on both smartphones
  4. On the iPhone, tap "Send" > "Contacts"
  5. Mark the contacts you want to send and then tap "Send"
  6. Select the desired method of transfer. You can tap "Receive" on the HTC Desire 820 and enter the transfer code from the iPhone, or you can tap "Generate QR Code" on the iPhone, and scan the code with the Android phone's camera to begin the transfer process
