WARNING! When you factory reset your phone, all the personal data stored on the devices internal memory will be deleted. This includes downloaded content, media files, ringtones, apps, contacts etc. In addition, all settings will be restored to factory values.
NOTE: Data stored on the SIM and SD cards will not be affected. However, if you want to back up data from the internal memory you can visit this thread for instructions. For a guide on how to restore data on the HTC 10, visit this thread.
Factory Reset via Settings:
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Personal
- Tap Backup & reset and enable or disable Backup my data and Automatic restore
- Tap Reset phone
- If your phone is protected by a screen lock, you will need to enter your PIN / password to proceed
- Optionally, enable Erase SD card too. WARNING, by enabling this all data on the external memory will be deleted during the reset
- Review the Warning message and tap OK to confirm
Factory Reset via Recovery:
NOTE: In case your phone freezes, crashes, or otherwise prevents you from resetting it via Settings, alternatively you can try resetting the phone from the Android System Recovery menu, which can be accessed by performing a combination of button presses.
- First, make sure the phone is turned off
- Press and hold Volume Down
- Press and hold Power until the phone vibrates, then release the key
- When you gain access to the hTC download mode screen, release Volume Down
- From the said menu, press Volume down repeatedly to navigate to and highlight reboot to bootloader
- Press Power to select the highlighted option
- Press Volume down to highlight Boot to Recovery Mode, then press Power
- Next, press Volume Down repeatedly to highlight wipe data / factory reset
- Press Power
- Navigate to and highlight Yes delete all user data and press Power once more to confirm and reset your phone
- After the reset is done, make sure reboot system now is highlighted and press Power to restart your device
Check for OS Updates:
NOTE: After you factory reset your phone, its recommended to check if new software updates are available for download. To do this:
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Go to Settings
- Scroll down to and tap About
- Tap Software information
- Check if a new update is available and, if necessary, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply the update (NOTE: A reboot may be required in the process)
