WARNING! When you factory reset your device, all personal data stored on the phone’s internal memory will be removed, including media files and ringtones, apps, downloaded content, contacts etc. In addition, all settings will be restored to factory values, but data located on the SD and SIM cards will not be affected.

NOTE: Before you factory reset your device you can visit this thread for a guide on how to back up data, and this thread for instructions on restoring data.

Factory Reset via Settings:

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Open “Settings” and scroll to “Personal”
  3. Tap “Backup & reset”
  4. Turn “Automatic Restore” and “Backup my data” ON or OFF
  5. Tap “Reset phone”
  6. If your device is protected by a lock screen, enter your password / PIN to proceed
  7. Optionally you can select to “Erase SD Card” too. WARNING! If you enable this option all data on the SD card will be deleted
  8. Tap “OK” to confirm

Factory Reset via Recovery:

NOTE: If your phone freezes, crashes, or prevents you from resetting it via Settings, alternatively you can reset the device from the Android System Recovery menu which can be accessed by performing a combination of button presses.

  1. Ensure the phone is turned off
  2. Then, press and hold “Volume down” and “Power” at the same time
  3. Release “Power” once the phone vibrates
  4. After gaining access to “hTC download menu” release “Volume down” too
  5. From the download menu, press “Volume down” repeatedly to highlight “reboot to bootloader”
  6. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  7. Press “Volume down” to highlight “Boot to Recovery mode”
  8. Press “Power”
  9. At the HTC logo and “No Command” screen, press and hold “Power” and then tap “Volume down”
  10. Release “Power” as soon as you are in the Android Recovery menu
  11. Navigate the menu using the volume keys and highlight “wipe data / factory reset”
  12. Press “Power”
  13. Highlight “Yes – delete all user data” and press “Power” again
  14. After the reset is done, highlight “Reboot system now” and press “Power”

Check for Software Updates:

NOTE: After you factory reset your device it’s recommended to verify if new software updates are available for download.

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Open “Settings” and scroll to and tap “About”
  3. Tap “Software information”
  4. Check if a new update is available, and if applicable follow the on-screen prompts to complete the process (NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot so make sure you save all unsaved work before proceeding)
