Turn Battery Saving Mode ON:
- Open the apps drawer
- Go to Settings and scroll to Device
- Tap Battery > Menu
- Enable Battery saver
Disable Unused Connectivity Options:
NOTE: By disabling unused connectivity options including Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth, and GPS when these features are unused, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down using two fingers
- Tap the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Location tiles to disable these features
- For additional options, access Settings
- Scroll to and tap Location
- Then tap Mode and select Battery saving
- To disable Wi-Fi Hotspot, go back to Settings
- Then tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Tethering & portable hotspot and set the switch OFF
Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:
NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by switching to 2G networks.
- Open Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Go to Mobile networks
- Tap Preferred network type and select 2G
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Swipe the Status bar down using two fingers
- Drag the brightness slider to the left to decrease screen luminosity
- For additional options, access Settings
- Then scroll to Device and tap Display
- Optionally, turn Adaptive brightness ON or OFF
- To decrease timeout duration, tap Sleep and select a lower value such as 15 seconds
Change Settings to Reduce Sync:
NOTE: By changing your accounts / apps settings to minimize sync, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Go to Settings and scroll to Personal
- Tap Accounts
- Select an account to change its sync settings
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Some third party apps perform regular background processes, and as such they can affect battery life even when they are not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third party apps, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Apps
- Make sure All Apps is checked in the drop-down menu at the top of the screen
- Select the desired app and tap Force Stop to disable it
- To remove the app, tap Uninstall to confirm
NOTE: Another method to remove an app from the phone is to open the apps drawer, and drag & drop the apps shortcut over the Uninstall section at the top.
Keep the OS Up To Date:
NOTE: OS updates can improve battery life, and its recommended to keep the OS up to date. To verify if updates are available:
- Launch Settings
- Scroll down to and tap About phone
- Tap System updates
- Verify if a new update is available for download. If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to install and download available updates. (NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot so its recommended to save any unsaved work before proceeding)
