I recently found out from Telus that they crippled the Web browser so that you can only download ringtones and the like from telus ONLY. Any other WAP sites will only allow you to view / play ringtones, it will not allow you to download them. Also when using a DATA cable you can upload ringtones to the phone but they will not play, mind you it will seem like it is.

My opinion is that this is complete Bull****! Why put all these features into a phone when you can't even use them... CORPORATE GREED!

Hey Chris, I found the same to be true when playing around with the browser settings - it just wouldn't work. But when you say you can upload ringtones, but can't get them to play, what do you mean? I'm able to load (and use) ringtones and wallpapers just fine using the data cable...

I haven't had any problems with mp3 ringtones, just so long as I convert them down with these settings: 22050Hz / Mono / 48 bitrate and then rename it to "body" within it's folder on the filesystem.

rdilawri, I believe, is using the LG 6190 tutorials thephonemall.net has posted for downloading camera pics and uploading ringers, am I right?
Customers who have purchased our LG 6190 USB Data cables, using our tutorials, seem to ahve no problems with images or ringtones.

Yeah, that's right. The tutorials at that URL have been great. Chris, you should also get the latest version of BitPim (v0.7.26)... it's been alot better for me than 0.7.23 which I had previously been using.

And all of the tutorials for downloading cam pics, uploading ringers and wallpapers can be found at the phonemall site... One last word of caution though - don't try to import your Outlook calendar onto your phone - it may appear to have worked, but when you try to reboot your phone, it may not start up again (e.g. if there's more data in your schedule than you had anticipated, your phone might croak!)

Hmm that's wierd... The camera image downloading has always worked for me - you just have to go into each of the "pic##.jpg" folders, save the "body" file to your machine and remember to rename it to "whatever.jpg". What kind of error message do you get when you try to pull down the images off your phone?

weird, I used a different program "QPST" to download my pictures cause I had 47 on my phone. now I just checked BitPim and it is working.

So keep that in mind when you have a large sum of pictures.

    Hi guys,

I've connected to the phone successfully and can download images with no problem. When I try to upload wallpaper or mp3 ringtones, the phone takes them, but nothing displays/plays (yes, they are formatted properly as described in the phone mall faq's)

I'm really at a loss here. Has anyone been able to get this phone to accept uploads? Is there something special you're supposed to do to get it to work??

    Any help is appreciated.

As a matter of fact I have solved that problem!

Basically, I have read a few tutorials on this thephonemall.net LG Tutorials and eventually came up with how to add MIDI ring tones and wallpapers in PNG, JPG and GIF format. It is a variation of the tutorials mentioned in the link above.

Basically if you read the "[Tutorial] LG 6190 - Upload MP3 Ringtones!" it is the concept, the only difference for MIDI ringtones is that you need to add a ".desc" file to the same directory the ringtone is in. (same place where the body file is)

Now for Wallpapers you use the Wallpaper Firectory insteal of the Ringtones directory, same concept as the tutorial above, just place the appropriate ".desc" file in the directory.

    NOTE:
Remember to delete the appropriate INDEX file and reboot your phone. These files are located in "/Download/dloadindex/" "brewImageIndex.map" or "brewRingerIndex.map"

I created a package HERE which contains all the ".desc" files required.

    EDIT:
    I created a tutorial.
    Read Here

Yup, followed your instructions and still can't see/hear custom uploads. Perhaps I just got a phone that TELUS finally modified to be completely incapable of u/l'ing custom content.

Well if you have the same or earlier software version than T61TEV11 then it should work. (Settings / Phone Info / Software Version)

Perhaps try deleting the mmsRingerIndex.map or mmsImageIndex.map or mmsDrmRingerIndex.map files in relation to the "FINISHING UP" Step.
Make sure you reboot your phone after!
