How do I open a url with my LG VX8100?
All I can seem to access is the lame Verizon "Get it Now" crap web sites.

I have the 6000 and there is a Mobile Web option on the menu. I would imagine there is a similar option on the 8100

I found out how...It's not very intuitive, but you can hit "Message->9" and it opens a browser, then at the top click "Search" and it'll give you a choice "Open URL".
The lame part: You have to go back to "VWZ Home" to get the search button. It's not always present on sites you visit.

Go into the service menu, and in the WAP settings, you can change the homepage. I use Google which is http://www.google.com/wml
You get a regular Google page with some special options for wireless users.

Hit the Menu Button then "0" and then all numbers for service code are "0". Then "8" and "4". change your homepage now.

Loading URL's
There are many ways to do it...most involve going to another page that supports finding a URL.
Personally, I find it far easier just to have my own WAP homepage on my webhost and have a file right there, available from the main menu.
Here's the code for a page that will take you to any URL. The LG phone's browser will remember past searches, so when you enter a couple of letters, it will come up and you can select it easily.
Cut and paste the code into a text editor. Save this as url.wml or whatever you like. Point to it from your homepage.
--------------cut and paste between the dotted lines-------------------
<wml>
<card id="card2" TITLE="URL Hound">
<p align="center">Go To URL...</p>
<p>Enter URL: <input name="url" value="http://" format="*m"/></p>
<p align="center"><anchor>Request $(url:n)<go href="$(url:n)"/></anchor></p>
</card>
</wml>
