OK- so I got my phone today and I have been told all along that I can chat with AOL Instant Message unlimited if I purchased the Vpack plan- so I did. And now Im being told that I actually get charged 10 cents a message I receive through AOL Instant Message. He said I can "look" at it all I want- but if i actually send Instant Messages, then I get charged 10 cents a piece. Is this correct??? Help!

I assume you have Verizon?? If so, with my phone (vx7000), I can download Mobile IM for free. For sending and recieving messages, it uses them out of my text message plan. You will probably need to get a text message plan if you want to use AOL. It will cost you extra, but a LOT less then the 10 cent charge otherwise. Nothing is free in this world, especially in the cell phone buisness. Hope this helps!

Well- of course I called back to confirm and they said that I can use the text plan, but only 250 messages (is that incoming & outgoing? i forgot to ask)... this is so confusing. LOL

I have Verizon. Do you have America's Choice Calling Plan? If you do, then you should be able to get up to a 1000 text message a month plan. The 1000 is for both inbound and outbound text messages.

I do have the america choice plan but what i was told is I can get 250 messages "out of network" and "in network" for 5.00 or for 10.00 i can get 250 "outside of the network" minutes and unlimited "in network" messages -- but using AOL Instant Messager-- it uses the "out of network" messsages... so it would be wiser for me to just get the 5.00 plan.. is that correct?

Ok, I'm going to streach out my knowledge of America's Choice Plan (by the way, this should be moved to the Verizon forum!). The more recent America's Choice Plan allowes sending of video, pictures, and text messages for FREE to other Verizon customers ("IN") IF you buy a text message plan that includes this feature. Everything else comes at a cost. You can get a plan for all of these things instead of paying for them individually. Now, in your case; the use of AOL is OUTSIDE the IN network, therefore they will charge you for each message you send and recieve *OR* you can buy a text message plan. Now, as far as I know, there are a few options for this. I think theyre 250, 500, and 1000.

What I am doing, is spending $10 a month for 250 messages OUTSIDE Verizon. IN messaging (for TXT, PIX, and FLIX) is UNLIMITED in that price. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on anything I just said.

    I really hope this helps!

    Unlimited IN TXT plans

$10 - Unl. IN, 500 to any other carrier
$15 - Unl. IN, 1000 to any other carrier
$20 - Unl. IN, 2500 to any other carrier

any instant messages sent counts as 1 non-IN txt, and any recieved counts as 1 non-IN txt.
    Can you hear me now?
    Lois: You're drunk again.
Peter: No, I'm just exhausted 'cause I've been up all night drinking.
