I recently cracked the LCD on my new xenon. I found a replacement LCD on ebay, but I was unable to find any information on how to take the phone apart. I figured my way through it and thought I should post something someplace so others can find it.
This probably voids your warranty... You need good eye sight and be prepared to drop microscopic screws that you need to chase after. Pretty much the only tool you need is a small philips eye glass screw driver and a small flat screw driver or pry device. I noticed some kits on ebay that include a pry tool and a t6 torx driver, but my xenon is all philips not torx screws...
- First remove the battery and sim.
- Remove the 6 screws around the outside of the back of the phone and a seventh screw behind where the battery rests.
- The plastic colored part of the phone can now be removed from the phone body. There are some plastic clips that snap it in, so it will take some prying to get it free. But don't break it.
- You can unplug the flat cable that runs from the screen half of the phone to the phone motherboard. Simply pry it up with your finger nail away from the circuit board.
- There are three buttons on the side of the phone, the volume rocker, camera, and lock button that you should take not of, mine fell our and I had to put them back in. Also, there is a rubber knob on the end of the SD slot and USB port covers that snap into the housing that might come dislodged and need to be reset.
- There are two sets of four screws that attach the screen half of the phone to the rails it slides on.
- After these screws are removed you can seperate the two halves, notice the spring that locks in place in two oblong holes (one on each half of the phone, screen and keyboard.)
- There are six screws on the back of the screen, three are covered by plastic circles that need to be pried free. They are just glued in place.
- Now you can remove the back, which again requires some prying to snap it free.
- The screen has two pieces of black tape holding it into the phone body and it also has the cable going to the ear piece taped to the back of the screen in two places.
- Once all the tape is free you can unplug where the earpiece cable connects to the circuit board by the mouth piece.
- The connector for the LCD screen is different then the others so far. This on is not a snap down plug, it is more like a ZIF (Zero Insertion Force) connector. However, when I tried to hinge open the white part that clamps the ribbon down I broke mine. So perhaps this is not a ZIF. Maybe a Some Insertion Force connector? I just unplugged the old cable by pulling it out and pushed the new cable in. My screen still works with the partially broken clamp. Hopefully someone else figures this part out better then I did.
- The ear piece contains a magnet that likes to attach to the back of the LCD. Make sure you get everything seated before you try and snap it back together.
This fix was around $40, where as my insurance deductible would be $50 and has a limited of two claims per year.

Re: Replacing LG Xenon LCD
Hi,
I tried replaced my LCD screen like your instructions said. It worked great, except the screen lights up, but does not display anything. Since it lights up a blue color I now power is getting to the new screen, but no display. Do you have any suggestions, or why its not showing any info. Thank you for any feed back you may have...

Re: Replacing LG Xenon LCD
hey kboo, I had the same problem with my screen as well. try adjusting the screen connector strip on the slot, it should be fairly straight and not slanted. I tried turning the phone on without the casing and the new screen works perfectly but as soon as I bolt the screen cover in place I get the blank but lit up screen. Apparently the cover, when tightened, forces the connector out of alignment.. it took me a few tries to get it right. hope this helps

Re: Replacing LG Xenon LCD
So, I bought a replacement LCD screen because my old one cracked in various places...I took the entire thing apart by following RepairsUniverse's video. It all went well, but I noticed that the tab-like thing on the bottom right of the replacement screen is..well, not really there. So it's not able to "tuck in" to that crevice, whatever that's for (I'm not an expert...) like the original screen was. I didn't think much of it and put the phone back together, however when I turn the phone on, the touch screen still works, but the screen is black. Maybe that had something to do with it? I have no idea, it's just a shot in the dark. I will try to disassemble and reassemble it again, but if there's any tips or ideas you could give me, I'd really appreciate it...Thanks :]

Re: Replacing LG Xenon LCD
I just replaced the screen on my daughters phone using the video and CookieDoh's instructions above. Everything went fine. My only issue was the spring. It wasn't covered in the video. After observing the pin configurations and the keyhole slots on the adjoining parts, I was able to figure out how it assembled and completed assembly. Powered on the phone and it works great. Thanks for posting great info.I paid about $17 for the part and took about 35 minutes.

Re: Replacing LG Xenon LCD
The LG Xenon screen is very slim. Try not to press it hardly during installation. Besides, the LCD screen incorporates a special POL that can increase the brightness of the screen. However, the POL may get scratched easier that normal POL. So try to be careful to prevent any damage during installation.
The LG Xenon screen flex cable ribbon is also quite slim. It is made of two layers of FPC. When disassembling the screen, keep in mind that disconnect the LCD screen flex cable from the motherboard first, and then can move to the next step.Last edited by moonflower; 05-11-2011 at 07:48 PM.
