Enabling Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Press the "Menu" key while viewing the home screen
  2. Tap "System settings"
  3. Go to the "General" tab and tap "Battery"
  4. Tap "Battery saver" and tap the switch associated with the option to set it to "ON"
  5. Tap "Turn Battery saver on" and select the level of battery at which the power saver mode enables automatically
  6. Clear or mark the check boxes next to the features that you wish to be enabled / disabled during power saving mode
  7. For more battery saving mode options, tap the "Settings" icon next to "Brightness" and "Screen timeout"

Lowering the Screen Brightness and Adjusting the Screen Timeout:

  1. Press "Menu" while on a home screen
  2. Tap "System settings"
  3. Access the "Display" tab
  4. Move the "Brightness" slider to the left in order to decrease the brightness
  5. Tap "Screen timeout" and select a lower value, such as "15 seconds"

Disabling Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, HotSpot and GPS:

NOTE: a smartphone's connectivity features can have a great negative impact on your phone's battery performance, if left unchecked / enabled when not in use. As such, it's highly recommended that you disable these features when you are not using them. To do so:

  1. From the home screen, press "Menu"
  2. Tap "System settings" > "Tethering & Networks"
  3. Tap "Mobile HotSpot" and clear the check box associated with the feature
  4. Press the "Back" key until you return to the "Settings" menu
  5. Tap "Location access" under "Personal"
  6. Clear the "GPS Satellites" check box
  7. Return to the home screen and swipe the "Status" bar down
  8. Tap the "Wi-Fi" and "Bluetooth" tiles to disable these features

Changing the Sync Settings for Applications:

  1. Press "Menu" while on the home screen
  2. Tap "System settings"
  3. Under "Personal", tap "Accounts & sync"
  4. Clear the check box next to "Auto-sync data"
  5. Select an application to reduce sync settings individually

Disabling Background Data:

  1. While on a home screen, press the "Menu" button
  2. Tap "System settings" > "Mobile data"
  3. Press the "Menu" key and mark the "Restrict background data" check box

Minimizing the use of Third Party Apps:

NOTE: even though you may not use certain apps, they can still have an impact on your phone's battery life, as certain apps can still run processes in the background even when they are not open. To prevent this from happening:

  1. From any home screen, press the "Menu" key
  2. Tap "System settings"
  3. Tap "Apps" under "Device"
  4. Select the app that you wish to edit
  5. Tap "Disable" to turn off the app. If you wish to completely remove it, tap "Uninstall" instead

Updating to the Most Recent Software Version Available:

NOTE: oftentimes smartphone manufacturers launch new software updates that fix potential battery life issues, or simply increase battery life by improving the power management systems. You should periodically check for software updates, but keep in mind that if no update is available, then your phone's battery performance will not be different. To check for updates:

  1. Press "Menu" while viewing a home screen
  2. Tap "System settings"
  3. Scroll to "System" and tap "About phone"
  4. Tap "System updates" > "Check now"
  5. Follow any on-screen prompts assuming that an update is available. If not, then return to the home screen
