Enabling Battery Saving Mode:

  1. From the home screen, tap "Menu"
  2. Go to "System settings"
  3. Under "Device", tap "Battery"
  4. Tap "Battery saver" and then tap "Turn battery saver on"
  5. Select the battery percentage at which the saver mode enables itself automatically
  6. To customize how power saving mode works, clear or mark the check boxes next to "Bluetooth", "brightness" etc.
  7. For more options, tap the "Settings" icon associated with "Brightness" and "Screen timeout"

Lowering the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. Access the smartphone's "Settings" menu
  2. Tap "Display" > "Brightness"
  3. Swipe the "Brightness" slider to the left to decrease the brightness
  4. Tap "Screen timeout" and select a lower value, such as "15 seconds"

Disabling Wi-Fi, HotSpot, GPS and Bluetooth:

NOTE: it's highly recommended that you disable all connectivity features on your smartphone when they are not in use. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS can be real battery hogs, so you should keep these features in check. To disable them:

  1. Go to the phone's "Settings" menu
  2. Tap "Tethering & Networks" > "Mobile HotSpot"
  3. Clear the check box next to "Mobile HotSpot"
  4. Press "Back" until you return to the phone's "Settings" menu
  5. Scroll to "Personal" and tap "Location access"
  6. Clear the check box next to "GPS satellites"
  7. Return to the home screen and swipe the "Status" bar down
  8. Tap the "Wi-Fi" and "Bluetooth" tiles to turn these features off

Disabling Background Data:

  1. Tap "Apps" while on the home screen
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Go to "Mobile data" and press "Menu"
  4. Mark the check box next to "restrict background data"

Changing the Sync Settings for Applications:

  1. Open the apps drawer and tap "Settings"
  2. Under "Personal", tap "Accounts & sync"
  3. Clear the "Auto-sync data" check box
  4. Tap an application to reduce its sync settings individually

Minimizing the Use of Third Party Apps:

NOTE: although you may not use certain applications, as long as they are installed on your phone they can still impact your device's battery life. This is because some apps can still run processes in the background. As such, it's recommended that you disable or uninstall apps that you don't use

  1. Tap "Apps" while on the home screen
  2. Go to "Settings"
  3. Scroll to "Device" and tap "Apps"
  4. Select the application that you wish to disable or remove
  5. Tap "Disable". To remove the app completely, tap "Uninstall"

Switching from 4G to 2G Connectivity:

  1. Go to the phone's "Settings" menu
  2. Tap "Networks"
  3. Scroll to "Tethering & Networks"
  4. Tap "Mobile networks" under "Network"
  5. Mark the "Use only 2G networks" check box to restrict your device to 2G. Clear the check box to return to 4G

Updating to the Latest Software Version:

NOTE: smartphone manufacturers and carriers oftentimes release new software updates that can increase your phone's battery life by improving the power management system or by fixing potential bugs.

Keep in mind that, if no software update is available, following the steps below will have no effect on your phone's battery performance.

  1. Open the phone's "Settings" menu
  2. Scroll to "System" and tap "About phone"
  3. Tap "Update Center"
  4. Tap "System updates" > "Check now"
  5. If an update is available, follow the on-screen instructions to download and apply it
