WARNING! When you factory reset your device, all data stored on the phones internal memory will be deleted, including apps and ringtones, contacts, media files, downloaded content etc. Furthermore, all settings will be restored to factory values.
NOTE: Data stored on the SD and SIM cards will not be affected by the factory reset. For instructions on how to back up data on the internal storage, check this thread. For a guide on how to restore data, visit this thread.
Factory Reset via Settings:
- Launch Settings
- Go to the General tab if necessary
- Tap Backup & reset
- Optionally, clear or check the boxes next to Automatic restore and Back up my data
- Tap Backup account and if necessary, log in to your Google account
- Tap Factory data reset
- When prompted to Erase SD Card, choose whether or not you wish the factory reset to delete contents on the SD card too
- When ready, tap Reset Phone > Next > Delete all
- Tap OK to confirm
Factory Reset via Recovery:
NOTE: If your phone freezes, crashes, or otherwise prevents you from resetting it via settings, alternatively you can try resetting the phone from the Android System Recovery menu. To access it:
- If necessary, power the phone OFF
- Then, press and hold Power and Volume down at the same time
- When the LG logo appears, quickly release and re-hold Power
- At the Factory data reset screen, release all buttons
- In the menu, press Volume down repeatedly to highlight Yes
- Press Power to confirm the highlighted selection
- When prompted to Erase all user data and restore default settings, highlight Yes and press Power to confirm
Check for OS Updates:
NOTE: Once you reset your phone, its recommended to check for new OS updates.
- Launch Settings
- If necessary, go to the General tab
- Then, scroll to and tap About phone
- Go to System info and check if an update is available
- If applicable, follow the on-screen steps to download and apply any available updates
