WARNING! When you factory reset your device, all data stored on the phone’s internal memory will be deleted, including apps and ringtones, contacts, media files, downloaded content etc. Furthermore, all settings will be restored to factory values.

NOTE: Data stored on the SD and SIM cards will not be affected by the factory reset. For instructions on how to back up data on the internal storage, check this thread. For a guide on how to restore data, visit this thread.

Factory Reset via Settings:

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Go to the “General” tab if necessary
  3. Tap “Backup & reset”
  4. Optionally, clear or check the boxes next to “Automatic restore” and “Back up my data”
  5. Tap “Backup account” and if necessary, log in to your Google account
  6. Tap “Factory data reset”
  7. When prompted to “Erase SD Card”, choose whether or not you wish the factory reset to delete contents on the SD card too
  8. When ready, tap “Reset Phone” > “Next” > “Delete all”
  9. Tap “OK” to confirm

Factory Reset via Recovery:

NOTE: If your phone freezes, crashes, or otherwise prevents you from resetting it via settings, alternatively you can try resetting the phone from the Android System Recovery menu. To access it:

  1. If necessary, power the phone OFF
  2. Then, press and hold “Power” and “Volume down” at the same time
  3. When the “LG” logo appears, quickly release and re-hold “Power”
  4. At the “Factory data reset” screen, release all buttons
  5. In the menu, press “Volume down” repeatedly to highlight “Yes”
  6. Press “Power” to confirm the highlighted selection
  7. When prompted to “Erase all user data and restore default settings”, highlight “Yes” and press “Power” to confirm

Check for OS Updates:

NOTE: Once you reset your phone, it’s recommended to check for new OS updates.

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. If necessary, go to the “General” tab
  3. Then, scroll to and tap “About phone”
  4. Go to “System info” and check if an update is available
  5. If applicable, follow the on-screen steps to download and apply any available updates
