Unable to change contacts names on Droid

I set my Droid to sync my facebook friends info with the names I already had in my phone. For some contacts, I only had part of their name in my phone, so I went in and "joined" the partial names with their respective facebook accounts. Some contacts kept the name that I had given the contact (ie my friend Michelle O. kept her nickname "Mo" as I had it in my contacts list).

I've also found that some facebook contacts (Peter S.) merged with my droid contact (Pete) and kept their facebook name. I've gone into "edit contact" and tried to change this, but it displays as the facebook name. When I go in to edit again, the correct name show up in the text box, but once I hit save it displays in my list as the facebook name.

Why is this? Why can't I rename contacts as I'd like to? Maybe, after syncing facebook, I'd like to rename an exboyfriend as "butthead" or maybe a friend has a nickname completely different from her actual name?

Is there a way around this?

hrmm.. I have to play with this some more. have you tried un-joining contacts and then changing the name?

For some reason, I can't log back into this site as mepoochkey, even after resetting my password and copy-and-pasting the new one, it tells me my password isn't correct. So I made another account.

Anyway, yes. I did end up un-joining the contacts and the ones with different names (such as Pete in my previous example) lost all their facebook info and avatars, and went back to how they were before I synced.

So I still haven't found a way to keep the facebook info, but rename the contact.

did you figure this out? i am having the same issue and it's driving me NUTS!

Have you tried logging into your gmail account from your PC, going to contacts, and fixing the info there? I've found I can change things there that I can't do directly on the phone.
