I have the opportunity to buy a razr v3 for $520 Canadian. This cell costs $639.99 + 14% tax in store with no contract. The seller who is selling 5 units states it is brand new and comes with box and all accessories. I asked the seller a couple of questions. It is compatible on my network and the seller responded it would cost an additional $75 to have the phone unlocked. So in total it would cost $595. Could this unit be refurbished? The price seems to be attractive however, I'm hesitant to buy because the phone is locked and I'm thinking it is used, or something could go wrong a couple of months later. Is this a good deal?

Your always going to take a chance when you buy a phone from somebody other than a provider or straight from the manufacturer.
I doesn't sound like the phone is refurbished so much as it was locked into another provider. You know, for instance, the phone was setup for Cingular, but your on T-Mobile. (that was an example, I don't even know if the two are compatable with each other)
If this phone is in fact brand new still in the box, you should still get the manufacturer's one year warranty when you get the phone.
If it was me, and I really wanted that phone (which by the way, I would love to have one, but not compatible with Verizon), I'd buy it. But, that's just me.

SWEET.....I'll get bored with it in a month....but that's ok, there always the next one in line.
Oh and foecheezy, your talking about the states, and, he/she is talking about Canada. Everything is always more expensive up there, and the US to Canada money exchange probably equal's out to what you paid. As a matter of fact, here's the exchange:
$595 Canadian Dollars = $486.675 US Dollars

Ok, if that is too high, could you please help out and give some links/example's of places where the person could look to compare and possibly get the phone for cheaper.

Man it must uck living in Canada, i would hat to pay that kinda money to buy something. Why dont you just go to America and get the phone, unless you are far from the border.

it doesn't really take much effort, all one has to do is a search and you will find all kinds of deals, try E-BAY for example, hope that helps some.Last edited by Tony E!; 04-16-2005 at 02:30 PM.

I guess my big thing is, even if the person buys the phone here in the states, do they have to pay import tax and all that to get the phone into Canada?
Yeah, I have found the phone (brand new) cheaper on the internet, but was wondering about the cost of getting it across the border.

I'm back! I'm going to hold off on buying a new moto for now. Eventually, there going to come out with the pebl and the non-flip version of V3. It's either going to be the razr or the pebl. And I'm close to the border. Can drive down however we can claim $200 of merchandise per person and if you go over that amount, then you'll be hit with fees.
