How do I download ringtones to my i870 ?

I have files on my computer and I would love to get them onto my phone as ringtones and alerts. Does anybody know exactly to do this? I have the connection cable, but I don't think I have the software, do I even need software?

Also what files types are supported? Mp3, Midi, wav, wma.....?
