    Hi,

I just received a brand new Motorola Razor from my brother-in-law just before leaving the U.S. on a trip. I tried unlocking the phone when I got to my destination, but it wouldn't unlock. I read the manual thru and thru and kept trying the same codes (pretty dumb).

Now the phone gives me a message 'Contact Service Provider', before I realized that my brother-in-law had written the code on the box itself.

Since I am out of the U.S., it's not feasible for me to call back to the U.S. Can anyone help me out here with how to remove this message so I can enter the correct code?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

If you put in the wrong unlock code too many times, you've locked the SIM. The reason it says "Contact Service Provider" is they're going to have to send you a new SIM card when you explain to them what happened.

Now, we're talking about your new SIM and not the old one, but if your unlock code is incorrect you might still have to contact the old service provider to get a new unlock code from them. It might be more feasible to buy the cheapest unlocked phone you can find in the country you're visiting.

Thank you, Brad729, for your answer. Fyi, I took it to a local store and got it unlocked for around US $ 30.00 (steep but gets it working). Thanks again.
