Clear App Data/Cache:

NOTE: If an application on your phone crashes, freezes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or doesn’t work as intended, you can try fixing these problems by clearing the application’s cache and/or data.

WARNING! By clearing an app’s data, all the personal information stored within the application will be removed, including user profiles, settings, login and credit card information, save files etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the app’s cache.

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Go to “Apps”
  3. Ensure “All apps” is selected form the drop-down menu
  4. Select the desired app and tap “Storage”
  5. Tap “Clear cache”
  6. If necessary, tap “Clear data” > “OK” (check WARNING above)

Reset the Device’s Cache Partition:

NOTE: If your phone freezes, crashes, runs out of storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as intended and you are considering a factory reset, alternatively you can try fixing the issues by clearing the phone’s cache partition. Unlike a factory reset, this won’t affect any personal data stored on the phone’s internal memory.

  1. Turn the device Off
  2. Press and hold “Power” and “Volume down” at the same time
  3. Release both keys when you gain access to the “Boot Mode Selection” menu
  4. From the menu, press “volume down” to navigate to and highlight “Recovery”
  5. Press “Volume Up” to select the highlighted option
  6. At the “No Command” screen, press and release “Volume Up” and “Power” simultaneously for several times repeatedly until you gain access to Android Recovery,
  7. Once in Recovery, press “Volume down” repeatedly until you highlight “Wipe cache partition”
  8. Press “Power” and once the cache is cleared, highlight “Reboot system now”
  9. Press “Power” one last time to confirm and restart the device

NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didn’t solve the issue, you can check this thread for instructions on how to factory reset the device instead.

Reboot to Safe Mode and Uninstall an App:

NOTE: If you have installed a third party app that causes issues and prevents you from removing it, you should be able to uninstall the app from Safe Mode. In this mode, all third party applications are disabled.

  1. On the home screen, press and hold “Power”
  2. Tap and hold “Power off” in the power management pop-up
  3. At the “Reboot to Safe Mode” prompt, tap “OK” to confirm and wait for the device to reboot
  4. Once the phone reboots, a “Safe Mode” watermark should be visible in the lower area of the screen
  5. To remove an app, open “Settings” > “Apps”
  6. Make sure “All apps” is selected
  7. Tap the desired app and press “Uninstall” > “OK”
  8. After the app has been removed, exit Safe Mode by rebooting the device
