Clear App Data/Cache:
NOTE: If an application on your phone crashes, freezes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or doesnt work as intended, you can try fixing these problems by clearing the applications cache and/or data.
WARNING! By clearing an apps data, all the personal information stored within the application will be removed, including user profiles, settings, login and credit card information, save files etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the apps cache.
- Launch Settings
- Go to Apps
- Ensure All apps is selected form the drop-down menu
- Select the desired app and tap Storage
- Tap Clear cache
- If necessary, tap Clear data > OK (check WARNING above)
Reset the Devices Cache Partition:
NOTE: If your phone freezes, crashes, runs out of storage inexplicably or otherwise doesnt work as intended and you are considering a factory reset, alternatively you can try fixing the issues by clearing the phones cache partition. Unlike a factory reset, this wont affect any personal data stored on the phones internal memory.
- Turn the device Off
- Press and hold Power and Volume down at the same time
- Release both keys when you gain access to the Boot Mode Selection menu
- From the menu, press volume down to navigate to and highlight Recovery
- Press Volume Up to select the highlighted option
- At the No Command screen, press and release Volume Up and Power simultaneously for several times repeatedly until you gain access to Android Recovery,
- Once in Recovery, press Volume down repeatedly until you highlight Wipe cache partition
- Press Power and once the cache is cleared, highlight Reboot system now
- Press Power one last time to confirm and restart the device
NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didnt solve the issue, you can check this thread for instructions on how to factory reset the device instead.
Reboot to Safe Mode and Uninstall an App:
NOTE: If you have installed a third party app that causes issues and prevents you from removing it, you should be able to uninstall the app from Safe Mode. In this mode, all third party applications are disabled.
- On the home screen, press and hold Power
- Tap and hold Power off in the power management pop-up
- At the Reboot to Safe Mode prompt, tap OK to confirm and wait for the device to reboot
- Once the phone reboots, a Safe Mode watermark should be visible in the lower area of the screen
- To remove an app, open Settings > Apps
- Make sure All apps is selected
- Tap the desired app and press Uninstall > OK
- After the app has been removed, exit Safe Mode by rebooting the device
