    i'd like to buy one as a xmas gift but not to sure since i've never brought anything from ebay

    does anyone no what i'd have to look for so that the reciever of the phone can just activate the phone and use it

    do i buy new used unlocked?

    i have been looking at a few different models and seeing how much they sell for but is it safe

    Your ideal purchace should be New and Unlocked. A good boost starter phone would be a i730. When you do purchase one, MAKE SURE IT COMES W/ A BOOST SIM CARD! If not, you'll have to search and find one on ebay too.

    Don't be affraid to ask for the sim & serial number!! A good seller would have no problem giving it to you. Then call nextel or boost for the status of that sim & serial numbers. I have had a few people do this and the person will give the serial numbers to a data cable or the wrong model phone. Then you know to stay away from that seller. There are a lot of stolen and water damaged phones on ebay. Christmas time brings even more out than normal!
