Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Open the apps drawer
- Launch Settings and scroll to Device
- Tap Battery > Menu
- Enable Battery saver
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down on the home screen using two fingers
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left side of the screen to decrease luminosity
- Open to Settings for more options, and tap Display under Device
- Optionally, enable or disable Adaptive brightness
- Tap Sleep and select a lower screen timeout value
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: By turning Off the phones connectivity options when unused, including Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth, and GPS, you can improve battery life in the long run. To do this:
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen using two fingers
- Tap the Wi-Fi, Location and Bluetooth quick toggles to disable the features
- For additional GPS options, launch Settings and then tap Location
- Tap Mode and select Battery saving
- To turn Off Wi-Fi Hotspot, return to Settings
- Then tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Tethering & mobile hotspot and disable the feature
Temporarily Switch to 2G Networks:
NOTE: In case your phone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Open Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Mobile networks > Preferred network type
- Enable 2G to confirm
Change Settings to Reduce Sync:
NOTE: By changing your apps/accounts sync settings to reduce the amount of data being synced on your phone, you might improve battery life in the long run.
- Open the apps drawer and launch Settings
- Scroll to Personal
- Tap Accounts
- Select the desired account and change the sync settings to reduce sync
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Certain third party apps can perform regular background processes, and thus they can potentially affect battery life even when not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third party apps from the phone, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Apps
- Ensure All Apps is checked in the drop-down menu
- Tap the desired application
- Tap Force stop to disable the app, or tap Uninstall to remove the app from the phone
NOTE: Another way to remove an app is to open the apps drawer and drag & drop the apps short over the Uninstall section at the top.
Keep the Software Updated:
NOTE: OS updates can include battery life improvements and thus its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for updates:
- Go to Settings
- Scroll to About phone
- Tap System update and check if a new update is available for download. NOTE: The update process will require at least one reboot. Save any unsaved work before proceeding
