Enable Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Launch “Settings” and scroll to “Device”
  3. Tap “Battery” > “Menu”
  4. Enable “Battery saver”

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. On the home screen, swipe the “Status” bar down on the home screen using two fingers
  2. Drag the brightness slider towards the left side of the screen to decrease luminosity
  3. Open to “Settings” for more options, and tap “Display” under “Device”
  4. Optionally, enable or disable “Adaptive brightness”
  5. Tap “Sleep” and select a lower screen timeout value

Disable Unused Connectivity Features:

NOTE: By turning Off the phone’s connectivity options when unused, including Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth, and GPS, you can improve battery life in the long run. To do this:

  1. Swipe the “Status” bar down on the home screen using two fingers
  2. Tap the “Wi-Fi”, “Location” and “Bluetooth” quick toggles to disable the features
  3. For additional GPS options, launch “Settings” and then tap “Location”
  4. Tap “Mode” and select “Battery saving”
  5. To turn Off Wi-Fi Hotspot, return to “Settings”
  6. Then tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  7. Tap “Tethering & mobile hotspot” and disable the feature

Temporarily Switch to 2G Networks:

NOTE: In case your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  3. Tap “Mobile networks” > “Preferred network type”
  4. Enable “2G” to confirm

Change Settings to Reduce Sync:

NOTE: By changing your apps/accounts’ sync settings to reduce the amount of data being synced on your phone, you might improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open the apps drawer and launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Personal”
  3. Tap “Accounts”
  4. Select the desired account and change the sync settings to reduce sync

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Certain third party apps can perform regular background processes, and thus they can potentially affect battery life even when not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third party apps from the phone, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Apps”
  3. Ensure “All Apps” is checked in the drop-down menu
  4. Tap the desired application
  5. Tap “Force stop” to disable the app, or tap “Uninstall” to remove the app from the phone

NOTE: Another way to remove an app is to open the apps drawer and drag & drop the app’s short over the “Uninstall” section at the top.

Keep the Software Updated:

NOTE: OS updates can include battery life improvements and thus it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for updates:

  1. Go to “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “About phone”
  3. Tap “System update” and check if a new update is available for download. NOTE: The update process will require at least one reboot. Save any unsaved work before proceeding
