Enable Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Battery”
  3. Tap “Menu”
  4. Enable “Battery saver”

Disable Unused Connectivity Features:

NOTE: By disabling the phone’s connectivity features when not in use, such as Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth, and GPS, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Swipe the status bar down on the home screen
  2. Tap “Wi-Fi”, “Bluetooth” and “Location” quick toggles to disable the features
  3. For more GPS options, go to “Settings” and tap “Location”
  4. Then tap “Mode” and enable “Battery saving”
  5. To disable Hotspot, go back to “Settings” and tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  6. Tap “Tethering & portable hotspot” and disable the feature

Temporarily Switch to 2G Networks:

NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can improve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Under “Wireless & Networks” tap “More”
  3. Go to “Mobile networks”
  4. Tap “Preferred network type”
  5. Enable “2G”

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. Swipe the status bar down on the home scree
  2. Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease luminosity
  3. Launch “Settings” for more options
  4. Scroll to “Device”
  5. Tap “Display” and optionally, enable or disable “Adaptive brightness”
  6. Tap “Sleep” and select a lower value

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Certain third party apps perform regular background processes which can potentially affect battery life even when the apps are not actively in use. As such you can disable or remove unused third party apps to improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device”
  3. Tap “Apps” and ensure “All apps” is selected in the drop-down menu
  4. Select the desired app
  5. To disable the app, tap “Force stop” / “Disable”
  6. To remove the app from the phone, tap “Uninstall”

Reduce Sync:

NOTE: By changing your accounts’ sync settings to reduce sync, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Personal”
  3. Access “Accounts”
  4. Select the desired account
  5. Change the available settings to reduce sync

Keep the OS Up To Date:

NOTE: OS updates can include improvements to battery life and thus it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check if new updates are available:

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to and tap “About phone”
  3. Tap “System updates”
  4. Check if a new updates is available for download
  5. If available, follow the on-screen prompts to download and install the update (NOTE: this will require at least one reboot)
