Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Launch Settings
- Go to Device
- Tap Battery > Menu
- Enable Battery saver
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: you can disable the phones connectivity features when they are not actively in use, including Wi-Fi, Hotspot, GPS, and Bluetooth, to avoid unnecessary network scans and potentially improve battery life in the long run.
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen
- Tap the Wi-Fi Location and Bluetooth quick toggles to turn the features Off
- Return to Settings and go to Location
- Tap Mode and enable Battery saving
- Return to Settings and access More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Tethering & Portable hotspot
- Turn the feature Off
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease brightness
- Next open Settings and go to Display
- Optionally, turn Adaptive brightness ON or OFF
- For timeout options tap Sleep
- Select a lower timeout value such as 15 seconds
Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:
NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve energy until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Open Settings
- Under Wireless & Networks tap More
- Tap Mobile networks > Preferred network type
- Enable 2G
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: you can change your accounts settings to reduce sync and potentially improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Access Accounts
- Select an account type and the desired account
- Change the available settings to reduce sync
Minimize Third-Party App Usage:
NOTE: Certain third-party apps perform regular background processes that can potentially affect the devices battery life even when they are not actively in use. You can disable or remove unused third-party apps to potentially improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Go to Apps
- Access All apps
- Select the desired app
- To turn the app off, tap Disable / Force Stop
- To remove the app from the phone tap Uninstall
Keep the OS Updated:
NOTE: OS updates can improve battery life and thus its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for updates:
- Open Settings
- Go to About phone
- Tap System updates
- Verify if new updates are available
- If applicable follow the on-screen prompts to install the update. Keep in mind that you will need to reboot your phone at least once in order to complete the update process
