I've been wanting to do this for awhile now but knew I would be spending a bit of time typing, but anyways here goes.

First if you don't have a yahoo e-mail open one, after that start your geocities web page (the free one). Done with that for right now. Next download some converting software (I use db power amp (also free)). On to the hard part (really just time consuming). Take the song you want (preferably mp3 format, if not it gets more complicated) copy it to your computer, do not use windows media player, it will turn you songs into wma format. Just drag and drop. Then use db power amp to change your mp3 file to .wav, open windows sound recorder and use the edit option to cut the part out that you want, anything over 30 sec is going to take forever to download, save this as the name of the song you want, use all lower case letters and no odd caracters or spaces just letters and numbers. Don't forget to convert back to mp3 (I use 64kbps, stereo and 16000hz) Now go back to geocities.com and start your page builder (disable your pop-up blocker) go to your file tab and select upload files and images, chose your file and upload. Go to your insert tab- forms and scripts- html code and a window will pop up put in a small discription and this code -
a href="nameofyoursong">Name of your song /a The second "Name of your song" is what people will see when you go to your site.

For an example this is what the code for my La Bamba looked like
    a href="labamba">La Bamba/a>
Click ok and save choose your index file or when you go to your site you'll get a this site is under construction error, it will give you a option to view your site go ahead to see if it works. And BAM!!! you have a site that you can download your own mp3 tones for free and if you have wap access you can visit it from your phone, keep in mind not to put too many songs on just that on page (you can make more and link to them from that page) or you won't be able to access the site from your phone. Good luck to everyone and keep in mind to post your site here so to share with everyone mine is Hidden Content and I have three sites with three or four pages per site everyone is free and I'd like to see what everyone else can do. If anyone has any questions pm me or respond to this thread, I'll be keeping my eye open, I expect the users that I already taught how to do this to share as well. Here's to stickn' it to the man.

Why the hassle converting mp3 to wav?

My V300 will play wav (or even amr), but won't use them as ringers, it needs midi or mp3 for these. Besides, mp3 is a LOT smaller than wav. A good thing if you download them via WAP.

You can use Hidden Content to cut the mp3 directly, and Hidden Content to reduce the bitrate to about 64 or lower and convert to "mono", which makes the files even smaller.

Filenames can include upper case letters or dashes: e.g. Artist-SongTitle.mp3 will work fine with both geocities and the average Motorola phone.

I don't know if these are free programs, but the ones I pointed out are, also if your converting or cutting a song with a kbps or bitrate that won't work on your brand of motorola phone your screwed, specifically with nextels. Also using the way I pointed out will allow you to change the volume of your ringtones with windows sound recorder. And as far as the lower case letters, when you start typing all the code if you have a lot of ringtones your going to wish they where just lower case letters and nothing else.

    Both these tools are free.
If you checked the links out, you'd see.

DirectCut also allows you to mess with the volume and such.

As for "wrong bitrate", both CBR from 32 to 160 or higher and VBR work just fine on my V300/600, as well as V525 or other models of this series. Anything above 64-128 is pointless anyway, because it's impossible to hear a difference - on these models.
I don't have any other Motorola phones to try it out, so I'm not saying anything about these.
Still, I never heard of any phone that could play mp3-ringtones, but failed to open a specific one because the bitrate was off...
We're talking Motorola, not Siemens-compatible wav... Hidden Content

Btw - correcting the bitrate is about the ONLY reason I pointed out Blaze MediaConverter in the first place: To reduce the BR to something your phone can handle.
The best thing about it: It allows you to "batch convert" several files at once instead of one at the time.

However, as you apparently forgot to mention, you'll need to convert the bits from wav back to mp3 ANYWAY, or else you can not use them as tones on a Vxxx. These NEED midi or mp3. Wav won't do.
    Believe me, I tried.
    Several times.
Using every trick in the book.
    Deleting the MyToneDB and such.

Wav doesn't work as a ringtone on these phones. It's as simple as that.

'Sides, I just copy/paste links. I don't care how "complicated" they are, as long as I have my tones sorted "by artist".

And if you intend to download a lot of tones/pictures/games/whatever, you're WAY better off getting a cable or BlueTooth... It's worth the price.

I didn't do this just for myself, if you'll check my posts I've more than a few times given that address out and honored requests for ringtones, I just though it would be nice for others to contribute, and not nit pick the way I offer to help, if your programs are free good for you, this is the way that I learned (and a free way at that) and offered to help everyone else, without asking nothing in return. If you feel you have to tear something down instead of offering a little input or contributing yourself (you obviously have the know-how) I could always just get your posts deleted considering your just junk posting and not offering any help, just critism. And not even being constructive critism, thats just the worst. Hidden Content

    "Junk posting"...? Hidden Content
    "Not constructive"...? Hidden Content

    Pot/Kettle much?!

Considering you've by now edited your initial post to add the "need to re-convert to mp3 before transferring"-bit I pointed out to you TWICE in this thread, aren't you being a wee bit over-sensitive here, calling it "junk" and "not helping"?

What is "constructive", if not something you yourself then build into your own instructions?

    Don't be ridiculous... Hidden Content

If a mod considered pointing out stuff/details/alternatives as "flaming" or "not constructive critism" and therefore "junk posting", I'm not sure I'll even consider posting anything on this board again...
So far, I found our mods to be quite rational/fair as far as this is concerned, so I'm not too worried here.

Anyway, you editing your post accordingly pretty much answered my question.
That's all I meant to accomplish be replying in the first place - to clarify whether or not you simply forgot to mention it, or left it out on purpose.

Continuing this via PM, before it REALLY grows off-topic, as it is between you and me, and the reply I'd typed up is probably going to lead to some more discussion the average user wouldn't benefit from, so...

    You should have a PM.

-EnigmaticAngel, not in the mood to argue

    PS:
    Another thing I just noticed:
You mention not to put too many links/other stuff on the page, or else you can't view it on the phone.

You can always type in the exact path+filename into your phone's browser, e.g. Hidden Content This way, you don't view the page but dl the tone directly.
It's more typing, yes, but less costly, as you don't have to dl both the webpage AND the tone. Most people I know prefer this approach, despite the extra keypresses.
Thing is, some people are not aware of this and actually ask "What do I do with a WAP link?! How do I get this tone to my phone?!"

Not nit-picking, just mentioning. Hidden Content

Not nessacarily (sp) give vidguy11 a shout he knows more about samsungs than I do. I'm not saying that you'll be able to have "real tones" on your phone but then again I'm not sure what an mmf file is capable of sounding like.
