Back up your data

You can enable or disable the backup of your data to the Google servers. You can restore on a different device all of your data stored with Google. Thus, backing up your smartphone is a great idea especially if you plan on performing a hard reset or you’re going to purchase a new device, such as a tablet or another phone.

1. Go to the Home screen and press the Menu key.
2. Then tap Settings -> tap Privacy.
3. Tap Back up my data, to either enable or disable backup to the Google servers.

Back up your data via Backup Assistant

The Backup Assistant is a wireless service that you can use for free if you want to save your contacts to a secure web location. In case something happens to your smartphone, you lose it, it’s stolen or damaged then you can use the Backup Assistant to restore your contacts to a new phone.

You can even schedule to have your data saved manually or automatically.

1. Go to the Home screen and tap Contacts.
2. Tap the Menu key and select Backup.
3. Or you can go to the Home screen -> tap Applications -> tap Backup Assistant.
4. And the 3rd option would be to go to the Home screen and tap the Menu key -> tap Settings -> Accounts & sync -> select Backup Assistant.

Automatic restore

This feature restores the backed-up settings if you reinstall an app.

1. Go to the Home screen and press the Menu key.
2. Tap Settings -> Privacy.
3. Tap Automatic restore to either enable or disable the automatic restoration of settings from the Google servers.

Performing a Factory/Hard reset

The factory or hard reset is used when you want to reset a device to its factory settings. It’s recommended that you use this feature only if you’re having issues with your smartphone, as performing the factory reset will erase all the data from your phone, which includes Google accounts as well as other email accounts, all the application data, settings and downloaded apps. However, the factory reset won’t erase the system software or apps and files stored on the memory card.

To perform the factory reset:

1. Go to the Home screen and press the Menu key.
2. Tap Settings -> Privacy.
3. Tap Factory data reset and follow the onscreen prompts to perform the reset.
