Your Samsung Galaxy S4 Active has a sensor that allows you to control it using specific movements.

Turning ON the Motion Feature

  1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
  2. Then tap Settings -> tap My device -> tap Motions and gestures.
  3. Now tap the Motion slider to turn the feature ON.
  4. By tapping Try it, you can also try the feature.
  5. After enabling Motion, the following features will be available to you:

    • Direct call – if you’re viewing a contact’s details (such as message or call details from the log), place the smartphone to your ear and the device will initiate a call to that particular contact or phone number.
    • Smart alert – whenever you pick up your Samsung Galaxy S4 Active you will be notified if you have new messages or missed calls.
    • Zoom – when viewing a photo or a website, by tapping and holding two points on the screen and tilting the smartphone back and forth you will be zooming in or out.
    • Browse an image – while viewing a zoomed in photo, tap the middle of the screen and move the device up, down, left or right to pan around the image you’ve viewing.
    • Mute/pause – when this feature is activated, if you’re on a call and you turn the smartphone over, the media playback or incoming calls will be muted/paused.

Turning ON the Palm Motion Feature

  1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
  2. Then tap Settings -> tap My device -> tap Motions and gestures.
  3. Now tap the Palm motion slider to turn the feature ON.
  4. By tapping Try it, you can also try the feature.
  5. After enabling Palm motion, the following features will be available to you:

    • Capture screen – you can capture a screenshot by swiping the screen with the side of your hand from right to left/left to right.
    • Mute/pause – you can mute the incoming calls, pause alarms, mute message alerts or media playback by covering the screen of your Samsung Galaxy S4 Active with your hand.

Gyroscope Calibration

The gyroscope sensor is in charge with calculating the movement of your handset accurately, so in case your Galaxy S4 Active is not reacting too well to your motion gestures, try calibrating the gyroscope in your handset.

  1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
  2. Then tap Settings -> tap My device -> tap Motion and gestures.
  3. Tap Gyroscope calibration.
  4. Then simply place your smartphone on a level surface and tap Calibrate.
