I live in the US but my step-son is currently living and working in Europe. He has asked if I could get him a Samsung Galaxy SIII so I looked online for what was for sale. I found the unlocked US version and the unlocked international version of the SIII, both for sale on Amazon.
When I looked at the specifications of both phones they seemed to be very close. In particular they seemed to use the same GSM frequencies, but the international version was about 50% more expensive. I don't really mind spending the extra money but I don't know if there is any reason to do so. So my questions are:
What are the differences between the phones? I don't mean minor differences like different outlet plugs, but are there any functional differences between the versions that would make a difference to him in using the phone? And
Will the unlocked US version work in Europe if the frequencies are correct? I have checked the frequencies used by the carriers where he is living (south of Moscow) and those used in the phones and they match. But perhaps there is some reason an unlocked US phone will not work in Europe. I just don't know.
Can anyone help me? Thanks.

Re: US unlocked vs International unlocked Galaxy SIII
Here is a list of the various models: http://cellphoneforums.net/samsung-g...-variants.html
The international version has a quad core processor & 1gb RAM where the US version has a dual core and 2GB of ram. If I were you I'd get the GT-I9300 international version:

Re: US unlocked vs International unlocked Galaxy SIII
Thank you for the response. I had already seen the comparison chart and I was not as interested in the technical specs as much as in whether or not I should expect the unlocked US phone to work in Russia.
You are suggesting buying the international version. But why? If it is because of the newer quad-core chip I am not sure he cares very much about that as he might want the extra RAM. But the main question is still whether or not I should expect the unlocked US version to work in Russia. Do you have any idea about that?

OK. But why the unlocked international model over the unlocked US model? Is there any extra functionality? I am not sure that a quad-core processor and 1 GB of less memory is better than a dual core processor and 1 GB more memory in a phone.
