Backing up Applications:
- While on the home screen, press the "Menu" button
- Tap "Settings" and go to the "Accounts" tab
- Tap "Backup and reset". NOTE: you need to be logged in to a Google account in order to back up your apps. To add one, tap "Backup account" > "Add account" and follow the on-screen prompts
- If necessary, mark the check boxes associated with "Backup my data" and "Backup account"
Contact Backup
Backing Up Contacts Using a Samsung or Google Account:
- While on the home screen, tap "Contacts"
- Press the "Menu" button
- Tap "Merge contacts" and select either "Merge with Google" or "Merge with Samsung"
- Sign in with your Google or Samsung account if necessary
Backing up Contacts to the SD Card:
- Open the "Contacts" application
- Press the "Menu" button, tap "Contacts to display" > "All contacts"
- Press the "Menu" button and select "Import / Export"
- Tap "Export to SD card". NOTE: in the pop-up window, the file name for the contact list will appear. Record the name if necessary
- Tap "OK"
Media File Backing Up
Backing Up Media Files on the SD Card:
- Tap the "All apps" icon located on the home screen
- Tap "My Files" > "All files"
- Press "Device storage". NOTE: to back up all your files, press "Menu" > "Select all" and skip to step 6
- Navigate to the folders containing the desired media files. Usually, pictures are in the "DCIM" folder, and other media files are in "Notifications", "Downloads" etc
- Mark the check box associated with the file or folder that you wish to back up
- Tap the "Menu" icon in the top-right corner
- Tap "Copy". Alternatively, tap "Move" if you don't want to duplicate the file
- Select "SD memory card"
- Navigate to the desired folder
- Tap "Paste here" (or "Move here" if you chose to move the file)
Backing Up Media Files on the Computer:
- Establish a connection between your smartphone and computer via USB
- Drag the "Status" bar down and tap "Connected as a media device" > "Media device"
- In the AutoPlay window that appears on your PC, click "Open device to view files using Windows Explorer"
- Navigate to where the files are located on your smartphone
- Copy the files and paste them in the desired location on your PC
- Once finished, safely disconnect your smartphone by clicking the storage media device icon in the system tray
Backing Up Media Files on a Mac Computer:
- First, navigate to kies and click "Download for Mac OS" in order to download and install Kies on your Mac
- Use the USB cable to connect your smartphone to your computer
- Drag the "Status" bar down and tap "Connected as a media device" > "Media device"
- Launch Kies on your Mac
- In Kies, go to the "Back up / Restore" tab
- Click the "Backup" tab
- Mark the check boxes associated with "Music", "Photo" or any other types of file. Alternatively, click the "Select all items" check box
- Click "Backup"
- When the process is complete, you can disconnect your smartphone
