Enabling and Customizing Battery Saving Mode:
- While viewing a home screen, press the "Menu" button
- Tap "Settings" and go to the "My device" tab
- Press the switch associated with "Power saving mode" and set it to "ON"
- Tap "Power saving mode"
- To customize how saving mode works, check or clear the check boxes associated with "CPU power saving", "Screen power saving" and / or "Turn off haptic feedback"
- To learn more about this feature, tap "Learn about Power saving mode"
Adjusting the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Press the "Menu" button while on a home screen
- Tap "Settings"
- Go to the "My device" tab
- Tap "Display" > "Brightness"
- Clear the check box associated with "Automatic brightness"
- Drag the slider to a lower but still readable level and tap "OK"
- Tap "Screen timeout" and select a lower value, like "15 seconds"
Switching from a Live Wallpaper:
- Some live wallpapers (especially if they're using a lot of graphics resources) tend to hit the battery quite hard. As such, it's always advised to use a "static" wallpaper if you wish to conserve battery life.
- Press the "Menu" button while on a home screen
- Tap "Set wallpaper" and select "Home screen"
- Select either "Gallery" or "Wallpaper"
- Go through the images and select the one that you want to set. Then tap "Set wallpaper", or if you're browsing the gallery, drag / resize / crop the image and tap "Done"
Disabling Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot and GPS:
When not in use, it's always recommended that you disable all connectivity features on your device, as they're usually the most battery demanding.
- Press the "Menu" button while on a home screen
- Tap "Settings"
- Tap the "Connections" tab
- Press "More networks" > "Tethering & Mobile HotSpot"
- Tap the switch associated with Mobile HotSpot and set it to "OFF"
- Return to the home screen and drag the "Notification" bar down
- Tap the switches associated with "Wi-Fi", "Bluetooth" and "GPS", and set them to "OFF". (NOTE: a grayed out switch means the feature is disabled)
Changing the Application Sync Settings:
- From any home screen, press "Menu"
- Tap "Settings" and access the "Accounts" tab
- Under "My accounts", select an account type, such as "Google"
- You can adjust the sync settings for the account type
- To access more sync options, tap your "user name" or "email address" located at the top of the screen
- Mark or clear the check boxes for each applicable category, to disable or enable sync
- Tap a category to adjust the interval time of syncing, for each applicable category
Minimizing Use of Third Party Apps:
- Press "Menu" while on the home screen
- Tap "Settings" and access the "More" tab
- Tap "Application manager"
- Swipe to the "Downloaded" screen
- Select the desired application and tap "Disable". Optionally, you can tap "Uninstall" to completely remove the app
- Tap "OK"
NOTE: only third party applications can be uninstalled.
Disabling Background Data:
- Press "Menu" from any of the home screens
- Tap "Settings" and go to "Connections"
- Tap "Data usage"
- Press "Menu" and mark the check box next to "Restrict background data"
Toggling from 4G to 2G Connectivity:
- Press "Menu" from the home screen
- Tap "Settings" > "Connections"
- Tap "More networks" > "Mobile networks" > "Network mode"
- To switch to 2G, tap "GSM only"
- To toggle back to 4G, tap "LTE / GSM / WCDMA (auto connect)" or "GSM / WCMA (auto connect)"
Updating to the Most Recent Firmware Available:
NOTE: following the steps below can increase your handset's battery life only if Samsung has released a new software update that addresses potential battery life issues. Otherwise, performing this guide will not give any results.
- Press "Menu" while on a home screen
- Tap "Settings"
- Touch the "More" tab
- Tap "About device" > "Software update"
- If a new firmware is available, follow the on-screen instructions to download and apply it
