Backing Up Applications:

  1. Press the "Menu" button while on the home screen
  2. Tap "Settings" and access the "General" tab
  3. Tap "Back up and reset". NOTE: to back up your apps, you need to be logged in to a Google account. If necessary, tap "Backup account" > "Add account" and sign in or create your Google account
  4. If necessary, mark the "Backup my data" check box, and tap "Backup account" to select one
  5. To manually sync your apps, press "Back" and tap "Google"
  6. Touch the "email address" field at the top of the screen
  7. Check the boxes associated with all the categories that you want to back up
  8. Tap "Sync now"

Contact Backup

Backing Up Contacts on a Samsung or Google Account:

  1. From the home screen, tap the "Contacts" icon
  2. Go to the "Contacts" tab
  3. Press the "Menu" key
  4. Select either "Merge with Google" or "Merge with Samsung account"
  5. Tap "OK" and log in with your Google or Samsung account, if necessary
  6. Follow any additional on-screen prompts to complete the back up process

Backing Up Contacts on the SD Card:

  1. Open the "Contacts" application and access the "Contacts" tab
  2. Press the "Menu" button and tap "Contacts to display"
  3. Select "All contacts"
  4. Press the "Menu" button and tap "Import / Export"
  5. Tap "Export to SD card". NOTE: a pop-up will appear with the name of the vCard file. Record it if necessary
  6. Tap "OK"

Media File Back Up

Backing Up Media Files on the SD Card:

  1. Tap the "Apps" icon located on the home screen
  2. Open the "Samsung" bundle and tap "My Files"
  3. Tap "Device storage"
  4. Access the device's internal memory by tapping "sdcard0"
  5. Perform one of the following sets of steps:
    • To copy all the files, press "Menu" and tap "Select item". Then, select the items that you want to copy
    • You can locate the desired files manually. Mark the check box associated with the desired file or folder
  6. Press "Menu" and tap "Copy". NOTE: to avoid creating duplicates, you can select "Move"
  7. Tap "SD memory card"
  8. Navigate to the desired folder and tap "Paste here" / "Move here"

Backing Up Media Files on a Windows Computer:

  1. Connect your smartphone to your computer via USB
  2. On your device, drag the "Status" bar down and tap "Connected as a media device" > "Media device"
  3. In the AutoPlay window on your computer, click "Open device to view files using Windows Explorer"
  4. Navigate to where the media files are stored on your smartphone. NOTE: the "Card" icon represents the SD storage, whereas the "Phone" icon represents the device's internal memory
  5. Copy the desired files / folders and paste them in the desired location on your PC
  6. Once the transfer is complete, safely disconnect your smartphone

Backing Up Media Files on a Mac Computer:

  1. On your Mac, navigate to SAMSUNG KIES and click "Download for Mac OS"
  2. Install Kies on your computer
  3. Use the USB cable to establish a connection between your Mac and smartphone
  4. On your handset, drag the "Status" bar down and tap "Connected as a media device". Then, mark the "Media device" check box
  5. Open Kies on your Mac
  6. In Kies, click "Back up / Restore"
  7. Click the "Backup" tab
  8. Mark the check boxes next to "Music", "Photo" or any other file category that you want to back up. You can also click "Select all items"
  9. Click "Backup"
  10. After the process finishes, safely disconnect your smartphone
