Enabling Battery Saving Mode:

  1. While viewing the home screen, press the "Menu" button
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Go to the "My device" tab
  4. Tap the "On / Off" switch associated with "Power saving mode" and set it to "ON"
  5. Tap "Power saving mode"
  6. Mark or clear the check boxes associated with the features that you want to be enabled / disabled during power saver mode, such as "CPU power saving", "Screen power saving" etc.

Lowering the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. From any home screen, press the "Menu" button
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Access the "My device" tab
  4. Tap "Display" > "Brightness"
  5. Clear the check box next to "Automatic brightness" if necessary
  6. Drag the brightness slider to the left, and set it to a lower but visible level
  7. Tap "OK"
  8. Tap "Screen timeout" and select a lower setting, such as "15 seconds"

Disable Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Hotspot, GPS and Bluetooth:

NOTE: it's always recommended to keep all connectivity features disabled, assuming that they're not in use. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and especially GPS can have a great impact on your phone's battery performance.

  1. From the home screen, press the "Menu" button
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Open the "Connections" tab
  4. Tap "More networks" > "Tethering & Mobile HotSpot"
  5. Tap the "Mobile HotSpot" switch and set it to "Off"
  6. Drag the "Status" bar down while viewing the home screen
  7. Tap the "Wi-Fi", "Bluetooth" and "GPS" tiles to turn off these features

Disabling Background Data:

  1. Press the "Menu" key while on the home screen
  2. Tap "Settings" and access the "Connections" tab
  3. Tap "Data usage" and press the "Menu" button
  4. Mark the check box associated with "Restrict Background Data"

Changing the Sync Settings for Applications:

  1. While on the home screen, press "Menu"
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Access the "Accounts" tab
  4. Under "My accounts", select the desired account type
  5. Tap a sync category to clear checkboxes and turn off syncing
  6. Tap your "user name" or "email address" at the top of the screen in order to adjust additional sync settings

Minimizing the Usage of Third Party Applications:

Even when not opening them, some third party apps run various services in the background, so it's recommended that you disable or uninstall apps that you don't use, in order to prevent them affecting your phone's battery life. To do so:

  1. Press "Menu" while on the home screen
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Tap "More" > "Application manager"
  4. Go to the "Downloaded" screen
  5. Select the desired app
  6. Tap "Disable" to turn off the app, or tap "Uninstall" and then tap "OK" to completely remove it

Updating to the Latest Software Version Available:

NOTE: the guide below will help increase your phone's battery life only if Samsung has released a new software update that fixes potential issues with your phone's battery, or improves power management. Otherwise, if no update is available, performing the steps below will have no effect.

  1. Press "Menu" from the home screen
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Access the "More" tab
  4. Tap "About device" > "Software update"
  5. If an update is available, follow the on-screen prompts to download and install it on your smartphone
