Enabling and Managing Battery Saving Mode:

  1. While viewing the home screen, press the "Menu" button
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Access the "My device" tab
  4. Tap the switch associated with "Power saving mode" to enable the feature. NOTE: a green switch means the feature is turned on
  5. To customize how battery saving mode works, tap "Power saving mode"
  6. Clear or mark the check boxes associated with "CPU power saving", "Screen power saving" and "Turn off haptic feedback"

Lowering the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration

  1. Press the "Menu" button while on the home screen
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Access the "My device" tab
  4. Tap "Display" > "Brightness"
  5. Clear the check box next to "Automatic brightness"
  6. Drag the slider to the left, and set the brightness levels to a lower value
  7. Tap "OK" > "Screen timeout"
  8. Select a lower timeout value, such as "15 seconds"

Disabling Wi-Fi, Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot, GPS and Bluetooth:

NOTE: a phone's connectivity features can greatly affect your phone's battery performance, so it's highly recommended that you turn off these features when not in use, and as often as possible. To do so:

  1. Press "Menu" while viewing a home screen
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Access the "Connections" tab
  4. Tap "More networks" > "Tethering & Mobile HotSpot"
  5. Tap the Mobile HotSpot "Switch" to turn the feature off
  6. Return to the home screen and drag the "Status" bar down
  7. Tap the "Wi-Fi", "Bluetooth" and "GPS" icons to turn these features off. NOTE: when the icon is removed of color, this means that the feature associated with it is disabled

Changing the Sync Settings of Applications:

  1. Press the "Menu" key from any home screen
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Access the "Accounts" tab
  4. Select an account type under "My accounts"
  5. Tap to adjust sync settings for the account. You can mark or clear check boxes next to syncing options, or tap to increase the interval time of syncing
  6. Tap the "user name" or "email address" at the top of the display to access more sync options

Disabling Background Data:

  1. From the home screen, press the "Menu" button
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Access the "connections" tab
  4. Tap "Data usage" and press the "Menu" button
  5. Mark the check box next to "Restrict background data"

Minimizing the Use of Third Party Apps:

  1. Press the "Menu" button while on the home screen
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Access the "More" tab
  4. Tap "Application manager"
  5. Swipe to the "Downloaded" screen
  6. Select an application
  7. Tap "Disable" to turn off the app. Alternatively, you can tap "Uninstall" > "OK" to completely remove the application

Switching from 4G to 2G Connectivity:

  1. From the home screen, press the "Menu" button
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Access the "connections" tab
  4. Tap "More networks" > "Mobile networks" > "Network mode"
  5. To switch to 2G, tap "GSM only"
  6. To return to 4G, tap "LTE / GSM / WCDMA (auto connect)" or "GSM / WCDMA (auto connect)"

Updating to the Most Recent Software Version:

NOTE: this guide works only if Samsung has released a new software update for your phone, which fixes potential issues with your phone's battery management, or improves battery life. If no update is available, following the steps below will have no effect.

  1. Press the "Menu" button while on the home screen
  2. Tap "Settings" and access the "More" tab
  3. Tap "About device" > "Software update"
  4. Follow the on-screen prompts if an update is available, in order to download and install it
