How-to: Samsung Galaxy S5: Adding, Importing / Exporting and Managing Contacts and Groups

Managing Contacts

Adding a New Contact:

1. While viewing the home screen, tap the "Contacts" icon
2. Access the "Contacts" tab
3. Tap the "+" button
4. Select where you wish to save the contact, such as "Device", "SIM card", "Google" or "Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync"
5. Type in the contact's name in the appropriate field
6. Enter the contact's phone number, and add any additional details in the right fields
7. When you're done editing the contact, tap "Save"

Assigning a Contact to Speed Dial:

1. Tap the "Phone" icon located on the home screen
2. Tap the "Keypad" tab if necessary
3. Tap "Menu" > "Speed dial"
4. Select the number that you wish to use for speed dialing the contact
5. Choose the contact that you wish to assign to the dial pad number

Deleting a Contact:

1. Tap the "Contacts" icon located on the home screen
2. Open the "Contacts" tab and press "Menu"
3. Tap "Delete"
4. Mark the check boxes associated with the contacts that you want to delete
5. Tap "Done" > "OK"

Importing / Exporting Contacts

Importing / Exporting Contacts from USB Storage:

1. Access the "Contacts" app and go to the "Contacts" tab
2. Press the "Menu" key and tap "Settings"
3. Tap "Contacts" > "Import / Export"
4. Select either "Import from USB storage" or "Export to USB storage" and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the operation

Importing / Exporting Contacts from the SD Card:

1. While viewing the home screen, tap "Contacts"
2. Access the "Contacts" tab
3. Press the "Menu" button
4. Tap "Settings" > "Contacts" > "Import / Export"
5. Perform one of the following sets of steps:
   
   • To import contacts from the SD card:
     
     1. Tap "Import from SD card"
     2. Choose the location where you wish to import the contacts
     3. Select "Import vCard file", "Import multiple vCard files" or "Import all vCard files"
     4. Tap "OK", select the desire file if necessary, and tap "OK" again
   • To export contacts to the SD card:
     
     1. Tap "Export to SD card"
     2. Press "OK" to confirm

Importing / Exporting Contacts from the SIM Card:

1. Tap the "Contacts" icon located on the home screen
2. Go to the "Contacts" tab
3. Press the "Menu" button
4. Tap "Settings" > "Contacts"
5. Tap "Import / Export" and perform one of the following sets of steps:

• To import contacts from the SIM card:
  
  1. Tap "Import from SIM card"
  2. Choose the account or location where you want to import the contacts
  3. Mark the check boxes associated with the desired contacts, or tap "Select all"
  4. Tap "Done"
• To export contacts to the SIM card:
  
  1. Tap "Export to SIM card"
  2. Select the contacts that you wish to export or tap "Select all"
  3. Tap "Done" > "OK"

Managing Groups

Creating a New Caller Group:

1. Launch the "Contacts" application
2. Tap the "Groups" icon located under "Favorites", depicting a "+" symbol
3. Tap "Create"
4. Type in the desired name for the group
5. Tap "Add member" and mark the check boxes next to the desired members
6. Tap "Done" > "Save"

Adding Contacts to an Existing Group:

1. From the "Contacts" application, tap the "Groups" icon depicting a "+" symbol
2. Select the desired group
3. Tap "+"
4. Mark the contacts that you wish to add to the group
5. When ready, tap "Done"
