Transfer Contacts using Google Sync:

The most popular contact transfer method is through a Google account, by syncing the contacts from a smartphone with the account, and then allowing the account to sync the contacts with the second Android smartphone (in this case the Galaxy S5 Active). To perform this method:

  1. If necessary, sign in with your Google account on the SGSIII
  2. From the home screen, press "Menu"
  3. Tap "Settings"
  4. Tap "Google" under "My accounts"
  5. From the account, tap your user name or email address
  6. Clear and mark the check box associated with "Sync Contacts". Alternatively, tap "Sync now"
  7. Register the same Google account on the Galaxy S5 Active
  8. Open the smartphone's apps drawer
  9. Tap "Settings" and select "Accounts" under "User and backup"
  10. Select an account under "My Accounts"
  11. Tap your Google account and press "Menu" > "Sync all"
  12. Your contacts should now be synced on your SGs5 Active

Transferring Contacts via Import / Export:

Using the "Import / Export" function of your smartphones, you can export your contacts from the Galaxy SIII in the form of a VCF file, which can then be transferred to the SGS5 Active via email or using a computer. Then, you can import the VCF file's contents on your Active's phonebook.

  1. Launch the "Contacts" app on the SGSIII
  2. Go to the "Contacts" tab
  3. Press "Menu" > "Contacts to display" > "All contacts"
  4. Press the "Menu" button again and tap "Import / Export"
  5. Tap "Export to SD Card". NOTE: make sure you remember the backup file's name
  6. Tap "OK"
  7. Launch the email app and compose a new email with the VCF file attached to it
  8. Send the email to your own address
  9. Switch to the Galaxy S5 Active and open the email
  10. Download the attachment, and launch the "Contacts" app
  11. Press "Menu" > "Import / Export" > "Import from SD card"
  12. Select an account if necessary, and load the vCard file to import the contacts

NOTE: In case you want to share the vCard file without using an email address, you can transfer the file by connecting both smartphones to a computer via USB, and copying it from the SGSIII to the SGS5 Active

Using "Send Anywhere" to Transfer Contacts:

You can easily send your contacts from the Samsung Galaxy SIII to the Galaxy S5 Active using various applications such as "Send Anywhere". This is an app that can perform file and contact transfer over a peer-2-peer connection, so there's no need for a computer or email address.

  1. Go to the Google Play Store and install "Send Anywhere" on your handsets
  2. Open the application on both smartphones
  3. From the Galaxy SIII, tap "Send" > "Contacts"
  4. Mark the contacts that you want to transfer
  5. Tap "Send"
  6. Lastly, select a transfer method. By tapping "Generate QR Code" on the Galaxy SIII, you can create a code that can be scanned with the Active's camera to commence the transfer. Alternatively, you can tap "Receive" on the S5 Active, and enter the randomly generated code from the SGSIII
