WARNING! When you master reset your smartphone, all personal data stored on the phone's internal memory will be deleted, including ringtones, downloaded content, apps, media files, contacts etc. Data stored on the SD and SIM cards will not be removed.

NOTE: Before proceeding with the factory reset, you may want to back up the data on your Mega 2. To learn how you can back up the data, visit this thread. For a guide on how to restore data on the Samsung Galaxy Mega 2, click here.

Master Resetting via the Settings Menu:

    1. Tap "Apps" while viewing the home screen
    2. Go to "Settings"
    3. Swipe to "User and Backup" and tap "Backup and reset"
    4. Optionally, clear the check boxes associated with "Automatic restore" and "Back up my data"
    5. Tap "Factory data reset" > "Reset device"
    6. In case your smartphone is protected by a lock screen, enter the PIN or password
    7. Tap "Continue"
    8. Tap "Delete all" to confirm

Master Resetting via Recovery Menu (Hardware Keys):

NOTE: If you are unable to master reset your smartphone following the steps above (your device might freeze, crash or otherwise prevent you from accessing the settings menu), then you can easily factory reset it by accessing the recovery menu with a combination of hardware key presses. To do so:

    1. Turn off your smartphone
    2. Press and hold the "Volume Up", "Home" and "Power" buttons at the same time
    3. After the phone vibrates, release the "Power" key but keep holding the other two
    4. At the "Android System Recovery" screen, release all hardware buttons
    5. Use the "Volume down" button to navigate to and highlight "wipe data / factory reset"
    6. Press "Power" to select the highlighted option
    7. Use the volume key to highlight "Yes -- delete all user data" and press "Power"
    8. The smartphone will apply the reset. When done, it should highlight "Reboot system now"
    9. Press "Power" to select the option and reboot your smartphone after a fresh factory reset

    Updating Your Smartphone OS:

NOTE: Certain software updates might be lost after applying a factory reset. As such, it's recommended to check for software updates shortly after you have applied a factory reset. To check for updates on the Galaxy Mega 2:

    1. Make sure your phone is connected to a Wi-Fi network
    2. Access the phone's "Settings" menu
    3. Scroll to and tap "About device"
    4. Tap "Software update" > "OK"
    5. If an update is available, follow the on-screen steps to download and apply it on your device

A software update is available for my Samsung Galaxy core, but I am informed that there may be a charge for downloading it. How can I find out whether that's the case and if so, how much is the charge? I am with Fido in Canada and have not found an answer to this on Fido's site.

    Hi Gabe,

That's a default message; it basically means that you might be charged by your carrier if you download the update using your data plan. Just make sure data is off and you're downloading the update over a Wi-Fi network.
