Restore Apps:
- Sign in with the Google / Samsung account used for the backup
- Access the phone's "Settings" menu
- Swipe to "User and Backup" and tap "Accounts"
- Choose "Google" or "Samsung" depending on the type of account you used
- Tap your email address and then tap "Sync all"
- Press "Back" to return to the "Users and Backup" menu
- Tap "Backup and reset"
- Clear and check the "Back up my data" and "Automatic restore" boxes under "Backup and restore"
Restoring Contacts
From a Samsung or Google Account:
- If needed sign in with your Google or Samsung account
- From the phone's "Settings" menu, swipe to "User and Backup"
- Tap "Accounts" and select "Google" or "Samsung"
- Tap the "email address" at the top of the screen and mark the "Sync Contacts" check box
- Tap "Sync now"
Restore Contacts from an SD Card Backup:
- Ensure the SD card containing the backup file is installed on your phone
- Launch the "Contacts" app
- From the "Contacts" tab, press "Menu" > "Settings" > "Contacts"
- Tap "Import /Export" > "Import from SD Card"
- Select an account if necessary
Restore Media Files
From the SD Card:
- Open the apps drawer
- Launch "My Files"
- Tap "All files" > "SD card" > "Menu"
- Tap "Select" and check the boxes associated with the files you want to restore
- Press "Menu" > "Move"
- Tap "Device storage" > "Move here". Optionally, tap "Create folder" or the folder name to restore (move) the files to a different location
From a Windows PC:
- Connect the Galaxy J1 to your computer via USB
- Swipe the "Status" bar down on the smartphone
- Enable "Connected as a media device" > "Media device (MTP)"
- On the computer, click "Open device to view files"
- Navigate to the location where the files should be restored
- Launch a second Windows Explorer window and locate the files backed up on your computer's HDD
- Copy the files and restore them to your phone's storage
- Once the transfer is done, safely disconnect your smartphone
Restore Files from a Mac:
- Establish a USB connection between the Samsung Galaxy J1 to your Mac
- Ensure that "Media Device (MTP)" is enabled in the notification area
- On the Mac, launch Kies and click the "Back up / restore" tab
- Access the "Restore" tab and mark the check boxes associated with the types of media files you wish to restore. Alternatively tap "Select all items"
- Click "Restore" and if necessary, follow any on-screen steps that may follow
- After the restoration process is complete, eject the phone's storage from the Mac and safely disconnect it
