WARNING! Master resetting the Galaxy J5 will result in the deletion of all personal data stored on the phones internal memory, including contacts, media files, ringtones, downloads etc. Additionally, all settings will be restored to factory values.
NOTE: Before the factory reset, you can visit this thread to learn how to back up data, and this thread for a guide on how to restore data on the Galaxy J5.
Factory Reset via Settings:
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Go to Settings
- Swipe to Personal and tap Backup and reset
- Optionally, tap the sliders next to Back up my data and Restore to enable / disable these features
- Tap Factory data reset > Reset device"
- Assuming your phone is protected by a lock screen, enter your PIN / password / pattern etc. to proceed
- Tap Continue > Delete all
Master Reset via Recovery:
NOTE: If you are unable to master reset the phone via settings as detailed above, you can try applying the factory reset from Recovery. To access the recovery menu you need to perform a combination of button key presses. To do so:
- Turn off the phone
- Press and hold Volume Up and home at the same time
- Press and hold Power
- At the Samsung logo, release the Power key but keep the other two buttons pressed
- At the Android logo, release all hardware buttons
- Wait for the Recovery menu to appear
- From the recovery menu, press Volume Down repeatedly to highlight wipe data / factory reset
- Press Power to select the highlighted option
- Highlight yes delete all user data using Volume down
- Press Power to select the option
- At the Reboot system now prompt, press Power to restart your device
Check for Updates:
NOTE: After factory resetting the phone, you should check if newer software updates are available for download on your device. To do so:
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Open Settings
- Swipe to System and tap About device
- Check the software version and if applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply the available update(s)
