Clear App Cache / Data:

NOTE: In case one of your apps doesn’t work as intended, causes issues, crashes, freezes, or takes up too much space inexplicably, you might be able to fix these problems by clearing the app’s cache / data.

WARNING! When clearing an app’s data, all personal data stored within the app, such as saved games, profiles, login and credit card information, high scores etc. will be deleted. As such, to avoid losing personal data it’s recommended to try and only clear the app’s cache.

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Launch “Settings”
  3. Tap “Application manager” under “Applications”
  4. Go to the “Downloaded” or “All” tab
  5. Select the desired application
  6. Tap “Clear cache”
  7. If clearing the cache didn’t solve the issues, tap “Clear data” > “OK”

Reboot in Safe Mode to Remove an App:

NOTE: If you’ve installed a third party application that causes problems and prevents you from uninstalling it, you should be able to remove the app from within save mode. In this mode, all third party applications are disabled.

  1. First, turn off the phone
  2. Next, press and hold “Power”
  3. At the “Samsung” logo, release “Power” and immediately press and hold “Volume down” instead
  4. Once the phone finishes restarting, release all hardware keys. A “Safe mode” label should be displayed in the lower area of the screen
  5. Go to the “Settings” menu
  6. Tap “Applications” under “Device”
  7. Tap “Application manager” and access “Downloaded”
  8. Select the desired application
  9. Tap “Uninstall” twice to confirm
  10. After removing the app, you can exit safe mode by holding “Power” and tapping “Restart” in the power management pop-up

Clear the Cache Partition:

NOTE: If your phone doesn’t work as intended or runs out of storage inexplicably, you might be able to fix these issues by wiping the cache partition. Unlike a factory reset, clearing the cache partition doesn’t delete any of your personal data stored on the internal memory. To clear the cache:

  1. Turn off the smartphone
  2. Press and hold “Power”, “Home” and “Volume Up” at the same time
  3. After the screen powers up, release all buttons
  4. From the Android System Recovery menu, press “Volume down” until you highlight “wipe cache partition”
  5. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  6. Wait for the cache to be wiped
  7. Next, make sure “Reboot system now” is selected
  8. Press “Power” to confirm

NOTE: If wiping the cache partition didn’t help, you can visit this thread for instructions on how you can factory reset the Samsung Galaxy J1 (2016).
